Droid RAZR & Droid RAZR MAXX ICS Bug Fix Release Date Up in the Air

Published

on

While Motorola cleared up the Motorola Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich situation, announcing that its been delayed until Q4, the company still hasn’t said anything about another important update: The Ice Cream Sandwich bug fix update for the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX whose release dates are completely up in the air.

Since the end of June, when Motorola and Verizon rolled out Ice Cream Sandwich to the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX on the last day of the release window, owners of both devices have been dealing with an assortment of bugs that have made the experiences on both Droid RAZRs miserable.

Over the past several months, we have received countless complaints from Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX owners concerning the Ice Cream Sandwich bugs and we imagine Motorola and Verizon have received earfuls as well. However, despite the pleas from owners and the obvious troubles, Motorola and Verizon remain silent about any information regarding a bug fix.

Read: How to Fix Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich Issues.

The Droid RAZRs are still without an Ice Cream bug fix update.

Until one of the companies does release information, Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX owners who can’t access their email properly, possess an extremely sluggish user interface and extremely slow response times when pushing buttons and swiping, are experiencing abnormal battery drain and more will just have to deal with those issues.

Unfortunately, the situation has become even worse now that the Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich update has been delayed. We originally heard that the bug fix and the Droid Bionic update would roll out in close proximity to each other. We heard from a source that the Droid Bionic update was indeed supposed to roll out in Q3 but that Motorola and Verizon didn’t want the bugs that afflicted the Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX to be on board the Bionic’s update. And that apparently led to a delay.

So now that the Droid Bionic ICS update won’t be out until October at the earliest and December at the latest, Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX owners could be waiting until the winter to get their badly need ICS bug fix update.

This sadly would not be surprising given Verizon’s past. With the HTC ThunderBolt, it took months to fix the reboot issues that plagued owners and with the Galaxy Nexus, it took five months to roll out a bug fix update.

So, yes, it’s possible that this update might roll out in December.

Hopefully, Verizon is making these updates a priority as there are many Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX owners out there who are in need of a fix. But at this point, the release dates for the software fixes remain up in the air. In the meantime, owners can try clearing their cache to see if that solves any issues but at this point, that seems to be only working for some.

Anyone still experiencing issues on their Droid RAZR or Droid RAZR MAXX?

Verizon should give us the option to turn in our Razr/Maxx for a new phone of our choice! That would speed their asses up with the bug fix! This is my fourth Maxx since April (3rd firb) and I’m paying for this Hemo-Droid!?

Adam, This is not a good report. My Razr has been a miserable device to use since the ICS rollout in late June. I waited desperately this month for the bug fix update, only to see now WINTER? Verizon, Motorola, Android, you have lost a once VERY satisfied customer (before ICS). Time to go the the iPhone, I’m done with this non-sense.

isheep have little faith… Are there any real comments of value here? It’s open source people…. Not narrow minded, single button using, basic tech wielding, once a year remodeling, isheep hearding, glitch covering sad users… Who bring about the creative breakthroughs that put technology on the fast track to your doorstep. If it were up to crapple everyone would still own the first iphone and keep paying more for them to use it. Fortunately crapple doesn’t dictate free will or intelligence. Just because a device and/or new system version is glitchy doesn’t mean us non-isheep give up! Ask and you shall receive… Complaining just gives more hay for the isheep… I believe Motorola/Verizon/Google will serve me some isheep for dinner real soon… I’d like me some DROID BBQ sauce for my ilamb dinner please ;-)

Googlerola needs to get this stability issue under control. They are releasing new RAZR HD models and they can’t stabilize the RAZR and MAXX that have been out since last November. For business users that rely on this phone, this is a serious problem. Serious enough to stop buying Googlerola devices and go to Samsung, or god forbid, the evil iEmpire. I personally like the ruggedness and quality of physical design from Motorola, but the software quality is a huge problem, do hopefully Google can get this under control

I still have no issues, and I have a Razr and two Razr Maxx’s, all with no issues. I don’t think it’s lucky, considering I have 3 of them that work well. I did backups and cleared the system cache on both the Maxx’s prior to updating to ICS. The Razr was activated, and immediately updated to ICS. So far, so good.

Motorola and verizon should trash ice cream sandwich and start over. Totally ruined my experience and wiped out all my configurations.4.0 loads multiple worthless apps tbat i will never use and doesnt allow the user to remove them. If i want an app- let me decide what i want and dont want on my phone! Hate it!

Yes, I am having many issues with my DROID RAZR but will never go icrap. My issues are over heating, battery life sucks, i have apps that i have paid for that worked with previous OS but now just shut done. The phone is a tool for me for work and i cant live with these issues much longer. I thought of rooting the phone just to get some better Battery life and to be able to get of the crap that i dont use. I was waiting for the ics update, but hearing that i may not even see that until next year, pisses me off. Motorola/Verizon/Google need to fix issues with existing phones first before releasing new ones.

I was having all of the delay problems on my razr maxx that evergone here speaks about. I rooted my phone and found out that it was running the cpu at 300 instead of 1200 99% of the time. I used setcpu to boost the speed to 1200 anytime the screen is on and set it to deep sleep anytime the screen is off. It now has very little lag time between apps and screens. What used to take 4 seconds now takes less than one second. I’ve always been very anal about turning the screen off during calls, when I’m listening to music, etc. so I’m still getting great battery life even when I’m using the gps for my tracks when the phone is recording my position, rout and speed while riding my bike–phone in jersey pocket for a couple.of hours and also on 4glte. I also just set the screen to brightest and leave it there. I’d rather have a phone that’s responsive and easy to see. I know that this isn’t optimum for some users, but it works well for me and doesn’t drive me nuts anymore waiting for responses. I was never able to drain the battery of my maax quickly anyway. It’s a useable and fast phone now.

Ok, I’m a self disclosing tech idiot, but I downloaded this app “Set CPU” and allowed recommended settings and now my razor is blazing fast again. This may be a type of ‘over clocking’ and might trash the CPU, but now my razor WORKS again.

Is there anything I should be concerned about of though? I’m afraid I gave my razor crack.

      Thanks

There was once a time Motorola put out a quality product and took pride in their workmanship. And if something wasn’t right, they’d correct it on the spot. Sad to think we’re paying premium dollar for flea market quality.

I purchased my droid razr maxx in mid March 2012 for 299.00. I loved the phone until I woke up on June 30th and ICS began to download by itself. Then…my phone began to act as if it were possessed. Battery life is not what it used to be on GB. So…I WANT MY MONEY BACK BECAUSE VERIZON/MOTO STOLE MY PHONE. YES, that’s what I said, they stole my phone. I now have a 299.00 piece of crap maxx. They told me that i A am not able to return to GB. How can they screw up a software upgrade if they had been working on it for over 9 months???????????????? Why does it work on other devices, tablets, etc? And, why are Verizon/Moto so frigan “tight-lipped” about a time frame for a bug fix? Are they going to skip the bug fix and go right into Jelly Bean????????????? Why not, JB is already out and ICS is already outdated. Either give me my money back or make my phone right again. It’s that simple. I consider this a breech of contract between Verizon and myself. I signed a new 2 year contract when I purchased the maxx and laid out 299.00. March 2012 phone worked fine, April 2012 phone worked fine, May 2012, phone worked fine, June 1 through June 29th phone worked fine. June 30th ICS downloaded, phone when to crap. I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My phone is guaranteed for a year from the purchase date March 2012 and Verizon wants to give me a replacement device. Why????? It’s not the hardware you idiots, it’s the SOFTWARE you shoved on my 299.00 droid razr maxx. You ruined my device without my permission, and now you want to send me out a “used device”????? I WANT MY 299.00 back so I can go elsewhere to purchase a different phone. You did not live up to your end of the bargain to provide me with a working device. Verizon, you are responsible for ruining my Droid Razr Maxx. Now, I want a refund. Thank you for listening.

I absolutely, and positively agree with you Vicki. My experience with my RAZR MAXX is the exact same

These are the most incompetent, slowest *****, in the world. I mean shit, if they bug tested this shit first this would’ve never happened. What they should’ve done and the few I’ve passed it along to agree, the bug fixes should be dropped and a JB update should be in the works, with all effort into that. We’re getting it eventually, why not just be efficient and start on that…oh well screw Motorola. This was my first phone from them and my last.

    • Kevin

      09/26/2012 at 4:18 pm

They do bug test them, that’s why there is such a delay between when Google releases an update and it actually gets to your phone months later.

And as any software developer will tell you, there is a big difference between “it works in the lab” to “it works in the real world”. There are some conditions that are simply impossible to replicate in a lab or even a limited release.

      • Rob

        09/26/2012 at 8:52 pm

Well there could be many reasons for the OS to hit the market late. I lean towards its cheaper. And yes, I know they “bug test” the software/hardware. To what ext nt however is my question. I would like to find some stats on approximately how many users are affected. Just from what I’ve been hearing its a very large portion of the end user base. Now as you know with most hardware/software you can say it’s probably under 30% of those who experience a bug, and possibly under 10% of those experiencing “breaking” bugs, more severe ones. I’m not basing it on anything other than generalizations over the years from games and on.

What I’m getting at is due to the severity and extent of these bugs, you’d expect them to efficiently work on it, but they’ve been occupied with other worthless tasks, such as the HD release. It doesn’t help that they haven’t lived up to their release dates twice now. Yes, complications can occur. But it’s hard to believe now that they should be doing what they’re supposed to be doing. And since other multiple devices in the DROID family are heavily affected too, I just can’t believe they didn’t cut any corners.

I’m done with Motorola after what they did with ICS. There was no warning that you had to purge the cache, backup the phone, etc., etc., before “upgrading”. It downloaded and turned my formerly solid performing Razr into a total piece of crap that took days to even reconfigure every single email account before I could get back to zero. For those that are not having problems, wait for it – it will come. Mine came when I was talking with Motorola on the device and it randomly started turning off the speaker – which made it appear like they hung up on me – and I wasn’t even touching the phone!

If they’re not going to fix it, I want my money back. I have already reverted to my Droid X on a second line but I paid for 4G and I want a damn phone that works. And it is the software, Motorola – it’s not the handset. Count me against your lost customer base. This is the last time you will screw this customer.

I have rooted my phone and flashed it with a leaked update file (6.16.215) and it runs like a charm. I froze all of the bloatware and now I have more available RAM for the apps I want to have running. Love my RAZR and will stick with Motorola. No other phone has the same build quality and construction features to match it. I got my first look at the new iPhone that a guy at work purchased and I am even more determined to never buy one of those overrated toys.

That’s cool, as long as you know how to flash custom mods & stuff like that. Rooting is easy now, but the rest of that stuff is beyond most of us. I would love to take a course on phone hacking!

Instead of Motorola pushing out new devices, Razr M, Droid Razr HD & Droid Razr Maxx HD, why not fix the current problems with the Droid Razr’s to make your customers happy. I just don’t understand this mentality. This is so frigan frustrating to me and to others as well. Another thing I can’t wrap my mind around is that the NEW phones that are being released DO NOT HAVE JELLY BEAN AS THE OS. Can anyone figure that one out? I currently own a droid razr maxx and I was actually considering purchasing the Razr Maxx HD when it comes out. I love the build of Motorola phones, why can’t they put the customers needs first. No…they keep making NEW phones and releasing them with outdated OS. WTF are they thinking??????????????????

Has anyone had success getting Verizon to swap for different make Of phone? I want to call them & complain because it’s so bad. I am so upset with Motorola and Verizon re my RAZR MAXX and the bugs following the ICS upgrade that my feelings are almost overwhelming. They will never ever have the opportunity to screw me again! They could have resolved the problems if they had wanted to but they chose not to do so and to let the problem fester with their customers up to the point of rage and rebellion. I will sell this phone if anyone wants it and try a different provider. I am not made of money and I hate what they have allowed to occur!

I am a bionic user currently running the leak. The only issues I have encountered so far is no flash, and bad battery life.
Right now we are yelling for the upgrade or for a Razr upgrade.
Just remember that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.
Motorola phones are always riddled with problems right after they come out.

I work next to the Verizon Wireless store and know the technicians that work in the back. At lunch today, they told me that Verizion has approved the latest ICS from Motorola (Version 247) and the OTA should be within the next few days. I don’t they’re pulling my leg as they know I’ve been pestering them for months about this.

Its The end of Sept 2013, This is in regards to Verizon, Motorola, and Google, as they own Motorola. They give you Certified Trash, only to have you complain or live with the trash. If you complain they send you another Motorola piece of trash, that someone else returned to them. Motorola is the official Trash Maker. Sponsored by Google.

RAZR M here with poor battery life and a date/time that changes regularly – I’m surprised this bug isn’t discussed more. The power button sticks in the “pushed” position – almost need to pry it back up with my fingernail. Very Annoying.

Droid maxx froze and now it will not turn on.. But I have had it since 2014.. Verizon informed me that I will have to pay $300.00 to get a new phone in order to upgrade or buy the new phone at full price.. Way to make equipment, that they are fully aware that this problem has been talked about and posted online. I feel like they don’t care about there customers anymore they just want your money.. Thanks Verizon if my family want on the company I would do pre-paid. So disappointed in a company that worked so hard to keep me as a satisfied customer and often get my family to switch plans but now I think it’s time I follow them to pre-paid.. Thanks Verizon..
