New Nexus May Launch in October with Android 4.2

Last year, Google announced the Samsung Galaxy Nexus during the month of October. And, according to a new rumor, it appears that it might do the same with its new Nexus device, possibly at the end the month at the All Things D: Dive Into Mobile conference.

The rumor comes from Android and Me and it suggests that Google may launch a new Nexus within the next 30 days with a possible announcement coming at All Things D: Dive Into Mobile which takes place on October 29th and lasts through October 30th. It’s the same conference that Andy Rubin used to unveil the Motorola Xoom and Android 3.0 Honeycomb in 2010.

Last year, Google announced the Galaxy Nexus in mid-October so an October launch of the new Nexus would not be shocking.

The LG Optimus G could be the basis for the new Nexus.

As for other details, it appears that the device might be running a new version of Android, but it won’t be Android 5.0. Instead, it looks like it may be Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, an incremental update to Google’s current mobile operating system. Android 4.2 is rumored to include some new features including enhanced Maps and camera features, and multi-user logins.

In addition, it appears that the new Nexus may in fact be a version of LG’s Optimus G, a device that was already announced a few weeks ago. It appears that it may be an unbranded, unlocked version of that device.

Other Optimus G features include a 4.7-inch True HD IPS Plus display with a resolution of 1280 X 768 pixels. It will have Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 Pro processor inside, 2 GB RAM, a sealed battery, non-removable memory, 32 GB built-in storage, NFC, and unfortunately, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich though we imagine that it would come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board, considering its a Nexus.

Previously, we had heard that Google might be launching five Nexus devices in November to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Android and it’s still possible that the LG-made Nexus will be joined by other devices. It’s just unclear if those devices will be the Galaxy Nexus 2 and Xperia Nexus, two devices that have been rumored.

Asus denied a rumor that suggested a $99 Nexus 7 was on the way though we could also see Google and a partner launch another Nexus tablet this holiday season too.

If it does turn out that LG is the Nexus manufacturer, Is this the Nexus that you’ve been waiting for?

Sorry I’ve soured on the Nexus brand. It means nothing anymore. Google, Samsung and Verizon had plenty of chances to make things up to their GN customers and they punted every time.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
