Pelican WaterProof, CrushProof Tablet & Notebook Backpacks Arrive
Most tablets and notebooks aren’t designed to hold up to water or pressure, which is why Pelican is offering a new line of sport backpacks including models with waterproof and crushproof compartments for tablets and notebooks.
The new Pelican ProGear Sport Backpack line includes four new backpacks bearing the pelican name. The Elite models include a Pelican case that protects notebooks and tablets from water and other hazards. The more affordable non Elite line of notebooks include rigid impact protection for tablets or notebooks.
Pelican is best known for their hard cases that provide protection for consumer and military equipment with a tough outershell. Consumer backpacks are a new avenue for the company, but it looks like the same Pelican cases are included in the backpacks. According to Pelican, the waterproof crushproof cases use the same watertight o-ring seal and offer protection for Apple notebooks, as well as other tablets, netbooks and accessories.
The Pelican ProGear S100 Elite Laptop backpack holds a 15-inch or 17-inch Apple notebook in the watertight, crushproof Pelican case and a front pocket to hold a tablet. The main storage section offers 25 liters of storage. This backpack retails for $269.95.
Tablet users will appreciate the Pelican ProGear S140 Elite Tablet backpack that protects an iPad or other tablet from pressure and water. The main portion of this backpack holds 20.5 liters and there is a rigid front plate to protect the backpack’s contents. The S140 Elite Tablet backpack retails for $239.95.
Pelican also offers two more affordable models without the standard Pelican crushproof, watertight containers. These backpacks use impact protecting sleeves or frames to prevent damage to 15-inch and 17-inch notebooks or the Ipad and other similar size tablets. The Pelican ProGear S105 Laptop backpack retail for $139.95 and the ProGear S145 tablet backpack retails for $109.95.
These backpacks look like good solution for users that need protection for a tablet or a notebook, that isn’t already rugged. From a tablet standpoint, the ProGear S140 offers protection while traveling without the need for a bulkier OtterBox iPad case.
