Galaxy Note 2 vs. iPhone 5

Published

on

The Galaxy Note 2 and the iPhone 5 are two of the hottest smartphones on, or entering the market.

While these two devices offer vastly different screen sizes, the success of the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy S III like design of the Galaxy Note 2 is drawing the attention of smartphone shoppers.

The iPhone 5 is already in the hands of 5 million users, but as contracts expire and users go looking for a new smartphone, the Galaxy Note 2 and the iPhone 5 are sure to be at the top of many lists.

This iPhone 5 vs. Galaxy Note 2 comparison will help users figure out which device is the best fit for their needs, and hopefully help users deal with waiting for the Galaxy Note 2 release.

Galaxy Note 2 vs. iPhone 5 Display

The iPhone 5 gains a larger 4-inch display with this release, but it’s nowhere near the size of the Galaxy Note 2’s 5.55-inch display.

The larger 5.55-inch HD display of the Galaxy Note 2 bumps the size of the device to 21mm wider than the iPhone 5, pushing the Note 2 into two-hand territory for many users. The Galaxy Note 2 boasts a HD Super AMOLED display with a 1280 x 720 resolution.

On the iPhone 5, the larger screen is widescreen for the first time, offering a better movie watching experience than earlier iPhones. The iPhone 5 uses a Retina Display with a 1136 x 640 resolution. This is not a full HD resolution.

iPhone 4S vs iPhone 5 screen size.

The Galaxy Note 2 display offers a 265 PPI pixel density, which is lower than the iPhone 5’s 326 PPI. A higher pixel density delivers clearer text because users cannot see individual pixels while reading or using the phone. Early reviews say the Galaxy Note 2 display is impressive, and PhoneArena provides a closer look at the Note 2 display.

Ultimately this comes down to the size of the display and size of the device. Both phones use a 16:9 aspect ration, which means no black bars while watching movies. On the iPhone 5 this means a 4-inch diagonal screen, compared to a 5.55-inch diagonal screen on the Galaxy Note 2.

Users who plan to watch lots of TV, movies and HD content may appreciate the added 1.55-inch screen size. The Galaxy Note 2 also boasts a split screen multitasking feature that allows users to use two applications side by side as seen in the video above. This feature is missing on some of the first units to arrive in the UK, but we’re hopeful it will arrive in the U.S.

The difference in screen size translates into a vastly different size for the phones, as shown in the sizeeasy comparison below.

Galaxy Note 2 vs iPhone 5 Size

Galaxy Note 2 vs iPhone 5 size comparison.

I find larger phones, like the LG Intuition, which measures 139.6mm wide difficult to use with one hand, so it’s something users should keep in mind. When paired with a good Bluetooth headset, the size of the phone becomes less of an issue in my experience.

Galaxy Note 2 vs. iPhone 5 Carriers

The iPhone 5 is available on three major U.S. carriers and several smaller carriers. This includes AT&T, Verizon and Sprint, as well as pre-paid from Cricket Wireless.

The Galaxy Note 2 will arrive on five U.S. carriers including Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, U.S. Cellular and T-Mobile.

Read: Galaxy Note 2 Launch Date What to Expect

We expect that Samsung will release the Galaxy Note 2 on all U.S. carriers around the same date, so users won’t need to jump ship to AT&T like they did with the original Galaxy Note.

The iPhone 5 and the Galaxy Note 2 both feature 4G LTE connectivity, though T-Mobile is not ready for 4G LTE yet. This means unlike last year, there is no speed sacrifice to get the iPhone, and there is no need to sacrifice 4G LTE coverage if the Verizon Galaxy Note 2 arrives on time.

Verizon 4G LTE coverage map.

This comparison of the major carriers provides a good look at the network strengths and weaknesses of AT&T v.s Verizon vs. Sprint. While it is iPhone 5 specific, the coverage and speeds are applicable to both phones.

There is hope that the Galaxy Note 2 will support simultaneous voice and data on Verizon and Sprint, but it is not confirmed. The iPhone 5 cannot make calls while using 4G LTE, but the Galaxy S III can do this on both networks.

AT&T and Verizon are the biggest players in 4G LTE, though Sprint is trying to catch up. The video below compares AT&T vs Verizon 4G LTE speeds.

Galaxy Note 2 vs. iPhone 5 Camera

iphone-5-review- 6

iPhone 5 camera.

Both the iPhone 5 and Galaxy Note 2 feature 8MP cameras capable of recording in 1080P HD. Below are several samples from each device.

The iPhone 5 delivers a fast shutter just as many users enjoyed on the iPhone 4S, but Samsung is no slouch with early reviews reporting fast shutter speeds for the Note 2.

The iPhone 5 brings a panorama mode to the table for the first time, but Samsung’s camera app delivers many more features such as Best Shot, Best Face, Smile Detection and Burst Mode.

iOS 6 vs. Jelly Bean

The iPhone 5 arrives with IOS 6, the latest version of iPhone software from Apple with new maps, Facebook integration and other features. Samsung puts Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on the Galaxy Note 2, Google’s latest version of Android. So, both of these phones feature the latest software features and enhancements.

The videos below highlight some of the best iOS 6 and Jelly Bean features. Samsung includes TouchWiz and S-Voice on the Note 2, offering some extra features and user interface changes.

iOS 6 Features for the iPhone 5

Jelly Bean Features

In addition to the new features the Android and Apple app stores are much closer than in the past. The iPhone still gains a small nod thanks to faster app availability, both in terms of new apps released and all apps working on the iPhone 5 at release, but developers are faster about bringing app compatibility and new apps to Android so this is not as big of an issue as in the past.

One are that is a clear edge for the iPhone is the number of accessories. This is not just in terms of iPhone 5 cases, but actual iPhone 5 accessories that require apps to work, but are not available on Android. One example is the Nike Fuelband.

Samsung users can enjoy features not found on the iPhone thanks to S Beam Share Shot and AllShare. With these features, Galaxy Note 2 owners can share playlists and other items by touching two phones together and can share photos to several Samsung smartphones at once, as shown in the Samsung Galaxy S III promo below.

Galaxy Note 2 vs. iPhone 5 Features

The iPhone 5 and the Galaxy Note 2 both offer 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models, but only the Galaxy Note 2 includes a MicroSD card slot to add up to 64GB of extra storage.

The back of the Galaxy Note 2 removes, offering access to the Micro SD card slot and providing the opportunity to remove the battery, something users cannot do with the iPhone 5.

Galaxy Note 2 S Pen

The Galaxy Note 2 S Pen is a stylus that offers added functionality.

The Galaxy Note 2 also packs the S Pen, a stylus that offers control of many functions and ties int special S Note apps. The S Pen can be used for handwriting as well as selecting information on the screen.

Read: New S Pen Features

  • One of the new features is Air Note, a way to see extra information while hovering the pen over the screen.
  • Popup Note, a notepad that shows on screen if the pen is pulled out while on a call.
  • Quick Command, the ability to send a email, start a call or send a text with a shorthand note.

The video below highlights many of these features and other Note 2 features such as the pop up Web Everywhere and pop up video player..

Really? If you want a Note…you may as well upgrade to an iPad. The iPhone is for us people who want a NORMAL sized PHONE, not a giant pain-in-the-ass iPad knockoff.

I have an iPad and i really like it but the note is a back up. I take my iPad everywhere so it would be nice just to take my phone as a back up

Baaahhhhhhhd boy. Slap an apple sticker on something, and you iClones will allow them to empty your wallet. Sorry, but as an avid mac user, I can say non biased that the Samsung will eat the iPhones lunch, steal its girlfriend, and laugh at it as it walks away. Meanwhile there is nothing the iHype can do about it. Sorry Apple, your arguments are invalid. They should have named it the iPhone 4.1s.

iPad knockoff? Compare the size of the stylus on the Note to the stylus on the iPa…oh, wait. Forget I said that. Well, then compare call quality between the Note and the iPa…shit…nevermind. Anyways, have fun with your comically oversized iPod Touch.

Wow apple fans amaze me. The iPhone is a great phone and the iPad is a great tablet , ( I have an iPad and have owned an iPhone ) but the experience of both of these products is different to the Note. A tablet it not portable where as this is, okay it’s larger than your average but at the end of the day it is still portable. I still even with the iPhone 5’s 4″ screen think it is too small where as my HTC one X’s 4.7″ screen is quite a nice size but I could probably stretch to 5″ as a maximum. Yes the 5.5″ here makes it slightly too big to use with one hand but if that’s the type of phone somebody wants, a large screen for gaming and a great visual experience, then that’s what they are going to buy this phone for, and you’d be surprised, sales are actually pretty good for the original note. And please don’t assume everything is a “knockoff” of apple, that’s just naive and stupid.

icrap5 fans just want to hate and think apple is the greatest thing on earth and feel like they have to put down anything else that’s not an apple.. When in reality sorry there are better things out there.. who wants to carry a tablet and a phone with them.. why not have both in one device!

I’m a pretty big apple fan but I just want to say that i’m going to be upgrading my Iphone 4 for a Galaxy note 2 because of the bigger screen, REAL multitasking, and more free fun apps. I never wanted to say android would get better than apple but I think that day has finally came. Until apple wants to innovate more than their standard 1-2 new features per new phone release i probably wont buy another iphone.

P.s. I was deadset on an Iphone 5 until i saw what the galaxy note 2 could do. WOW

I have been an iPhone user since the iPhone 3, and last week I upgraded to an iPhone 5, but I have to be honest…I am returning this phone within my 14 day period and exchanging it for the Galaxy Note II. I am NOT happy with the touch screen as it’s acting up and not responsive half the time. And as far as the “new” version 5 iPhone goes, the only “new” thing I notice is the bigger screen and smaller phone. It’s time for me to make a change…and the Note II is going to be it :)

I have been an apple person for so many years and I told myself and family members that I will always be loyal to Apple. I purchased the iphone 5 when it first came out and since then Apple has replaced the device 3xs and in the process of being replacing it again. The nearest Apple store is 150 miles aways. Yes, stupid me drove 300 miles both to pick up my new device. Then I was told by an Apple technician that the Apple store replacing phones with “refurbish” in lieu of “new” devices. I was informed each time that the replacement was a new phone. I’m very disappointed with Apple and their constantly lying. My next phone is the Samsung Galaxy Note II.

I had the original ipad which I gave away, and I now have the original Nook color, (which was waste of money once ipad and android apps got better for it), ipad3, and have family members who had iPhone 4S, and who currently have iphone5’s. I’ve had several android phones and now own note 2. I LOOVVEEE IT! The phone is not too big for me at all. I actually wish it were slightly bigger, but not as big as the nook! Since I have the luxury of playing with all the above mentioned items, and other tabs which I didn’t even mention, I can say that the choice for either the iphone or note 2 is that it all depends on what the consumer wants! The size is also a preference. So is the s pen. But to say the note 2 is iphone 5’s copy for someone who can’t afford it is SO ignorant. I can afford either one but I CHOSE note 2 for its benefits for me. There are so many things I can do with it that I cannot do on my ipad 3 or even on my family members’ iphone 5. One example…I can crop a picture from the web , write a message on the cropped picture and text it. All with the s pen! I can write a message with the s pen and sends that as text! SSSOOoO cool!

I now have the iPhone 5. It’s very nice. I had the 3GS before this, and most recently prior to the 5, I had the google nexus s. battery was bad, but I was really enjoying the android os… Now I have the 5, and I feel I want to go back to android. So if anyone wants to buy my iPhone 5′, 2 months new, then I’ll go and buy the note. Any takers?

tommy, you’re a douche bag. what’s a normal size phone? and who carries their
ipad all over the place. yeah, go ahead spend you’re money for a 1/4 of an inch bigger screen. what a dumb ass. only reason apple doesn’t want to increase the size is
they have douche like yourself will buy every year for smaller improvement.

got that right dude….no offence to apple fans but FYI…i own a Mac pro, iphone 4, ipad and even ipod…these are all great devices but just think about it….what was really different on the 4S…..i found 3-4 things. Siri, 8M camera, faster processor and some minute details….the same goes for the jump from 4S to 5. its just thinner lighter and has a bigger screen. i dont see any point in paying Rs 50000/- which is quite a lot for a phone. personally i think Note 2 has a lot to offer at a price of Rs 40000/-

Exactly.. small improvement!!!.. I saw my friend with a droid while I have the stupid iphone4 and everything that comes standard I have to get an app for.. WTF!? just so I can have the simplicity of the phone? given that the iphone should cost less.. but all the stupid pompous apple fans get excited over what 1 new feature the last year phone didnt have.. ridiculous!

      10/12/2012 at 7:20 pm

Ok tommy. You obviosly did not read the entire thing. The ipad is a cheap knock-off of the GN2. The Galaxy Note 2 has a lot more features for the things that apple just got. Panorama for example. My phone is three years old from its release and IT has panorama. Actuallu read the things before you judge. And if you don’t like the size of the GN2, get th Galaxy SIII. It’s also better than the iphone 5, but not as good as its predecessor.

Battery Heyit all really depends what you are looking for in a phone. I have had a iphone 4s and currently own a iphone 5 and love it! My fiance has a note 2 which i am playing with for awhile, and my room mate has a s3 and a s2 which has allowed me to try them all. I will break things up into categories to try help you.

          Gpu:
With the iphone 5 you have the best gpu of the devices you named which will provide the best gaming performance. The galaxy s3 and note 2 have the same gpu which is less powerful than the iphone 5, but offer great performance. The 4s is right behind the s3 and note 2 for gpu performance followed by the s2.

Cpu: the note 2 and quad core s3 have the fastest cpu’s followed closely by the iphone 5 and the dual core s3 behind that (usa version).

          Memory:
          note 2: 2gigs
          Dual core s3: 2gigs
          Iphone 5: 1 gig
          Quad core s3: 1 gig
          Iphone 4s: 512mb
          S2: not sure

          Battery:
I can only attest to the note 2, iphone 5 and 4s for battery life.
I will say that I have been very impressed with the note 2’s battery life, it seems to outlast my iphone 5 but the iphone 5 lasts pretty long, the 4s lasts a little less than my iphone 5.

          Personal recommendation:
I personally recommend the iphone 5 mostly due to apple customer support (had bad experience with samsung) but I think with any of the above phones you will be happy as they are all great phones. Hope that helps.

Such a Typical response.. I think you’re missing the point shithead, the smart stylus is the feature and I doubt ipad has anything that can match it.
Samsung is already two years ahead of Apple in this genre just in case apple decides to design something similiar for ipad users.

Tommy, you do know that the Note 2 is pocket-able, right? Can you fit an iPad into your pocket? Does an iPad have Beam? ShareShot? How about AirView? S Note? Smart Stay&Rotation? Google Maps? No, the iPhone does NOT have these features, and is much smaller. The iPad is not pocket-able, and is SLOWER than the Note 2. The screen difference between the iPhone 5 and Note 2 is 1.55 inches, between the Note 2 and iPad 2012? 4.15 inch screen difference, so no. The Note is NOT a direct competitor to an iPad. And even if it was, it would win the competition. Don’t be upset that your platform of choice is no longer industry leading, or if you are don’t take it out on the platform that IS industry leading.

the ipad and the note are totally different pieces as the note is a mobile phone that will do just what u want from the ipad but at the same having total control of everything as it is a cellphone but i can never argue with the ipad as it the best tablet no excuse..the note was a great innovation no wonder the “ipad mini” is in production.

Fucking idiot Note is not a fucking knockoff of iPad.
its a totally different idea. cross over between phone and a tablet.
Oh there were tablets in Korea long before iPad came out.
You stupid ignorant Americans think “iPhone” are the best shit. Couple of years Samsung will literally fuck up iPhone.
and btw samsung makes Apples processor chips.
If you didn’t know. Apple cant even have their own technology without borrowing it from Samsung. so STFU.

I appreciate the “opinions” of everyone. But to resort to a low level of name calling and nationality bias becomes not only offensive to some(most) but devalues the opinion of the individual who may have some great insights. Its not about fighting, its about giving an opinion, and no one is forcing anyone to buy anything!!! Stick with the facts, and love what you wish.

Tommy, Galaxy Note 2 is not a knockoff. Galaxy Note 2 (and the Note series) is Samsung’s originality. 5+ size screen (higher res than iPhone retina screen) (size does matter), Samsung’s own improved version of HD Super AMOLED display, S Pen technologies including Air View with apps, Smart Gestures, S Beam, multitasking pop-ups, multi-windows, translate what you hand writing while talking notes, etc. Samsung improving on some technology, while innovating new technologies with Samsung Note 2. Truly taking several steps forward to the future. NO, Galaxy Note 2 is not a knockoff. In fact Galaxy Note series is Samsung stepping away from following others and becoming a leader for others to follow.

Just a note: Most iPhone users see my Galaxy Note 2 they stare at it and sometimes give me the evil look. Why hate Android so much? Or there is there another reason for the stares and evil eyes that iPhone users wish to not mention?

It seems that Samsung owners are quick to comment on apple products both are great but it comes down to what works for you! At the end of the day the two company’s combined are making billions of dollars while the consumers try to decide who’s the best device!!! Does it really matter which one the best?

Excuse the Note 2’s faulty keyboard :) …. Actually I’m just kiddin’ I’m a Note 2 owner and I like both Samsung and Apple, though I do for sure find Note 2 to be absolutely neat. I think 80% of the comments here is fanboys battles.

Brand loyalty can end up costing you in the long run. I have been a longtime iphone User but I am going to be buying a note2. I want to see if the grass is greener.

      Is it?

      • Trevor

        11/24/2012 at 7:31 am

Hey Katrina, the note 2 is a great phone but I wouldn’t say it’s greener on the otherside. My fiance was a android user who switched to a iPhone due to it being a more reliable os (less crashing) this was when she had a nexus s and switched to a iPhone 4S. We lately switched carriers and curiosity got the best of us and we got her the best android available which was the note 2. At first we again loved all the customization and features, but phone crashes and poor battery life soon reared its ugly head again (no launchers, root or widgets to blame) We are going to be trading her note 2 for a iPhone 5 due to some of these problems. As my fiancé put it “its cool customizing but there isn’t a thing I can do better on the note than on her iphone” but there were some things she had on her iphone that she didn’t on the note.

It depends what you want in a phone, I like games and more stability which is why I use a iPhone. If your ok with a few bugs along the way the note 2 is pretty sweat, so I think the grass isn’t greener, just a diff shade of green. I just recommend a iPhone to others as I prefer it.

  7. hminney

    10/04/2012 at 1:16 pm

That’s really cool! Sometimes you need a big screen (like my 24″ desktop screen), or a medium-sized (10″) screen, or a small screen (5.5″) for when I want to watch movies and space is limited, like when travelling (no, the seat back in front of me is too close for a 10″ screen – I don’t go Business Class). But if I prefer, I can have a much smaller phone like the iPhone for, err, when I need a smaller phone. Actually, I think when I need a smaller phone I’ll stick to the old emergency phone with the battery that lasts a month. Sorry Apple, can’t see a good reason to get your phone at all . . .

I can’t wait to see a REAL side-by-side video and photo comparison. The I-Phone was on a tripod for the video shooting. Now that’s “real world” isn’t it? LOL. Actually, larger screens are better for those of us who are over age 40 and use our phones for business purposes. The fastest growing segment of the population, I might add. -Allen in Chicago

    • Mike

      10/05/2012 at 10:48 am

With age over 40, I fully agree with Allen. Bigger screen is definitely better. I have my Note 1 for a year now. I find SIII is too small for me now.

  12. Rishab

    10/07/2012 at 1:55 am

Be realistic iphone 5 is better in terms of portability and easiness so what if the the note is 1second faster its way to massive although overall it is a good phone regardless of the size.

    • Vitalicboi

      10/12/2012 at 12:19 am

Your right, the iPhone 5 is better in terms of portability, but I decided to go with the Note 2 instead of the iPhone 5 because of the vast amount of features that the Note 2 offers. This is what will attract buyers. Go look up all the features that the Galaxy Note 2 offers and you will be amazed. Meanwhile, the iPhone 5 is simply thinner and lighter and has a bigger (yet still too small) screen. The iPhone is becoming a stale and boring product. They release a new phone with minimal upgrades, while Samsung continues to release the best technology that is offered to date.

Over all it is the best phone, check out ANY head to head comparison, the Note 2 is a BEAST. Fast, functional, AMAZING battery, beautiful screen, feature packed to the point of absurdity, and really customizable. There is literally no down side to the Note 2 except for it’s size (which isn’t such a big deal, because it fits in the pocket of most pants). Oh, and lets not forget it has a reinvented stylus. But yes, the iPhone is very easy to use and is very portable with a good battery life.

Can anyone be objective and tell me if the Galaxy S3, the Note 2 or the Iphone 5 are all competitive, or am I now behind the 8 ball if I choose the S3?

        • cnecorp

          10/18/2012 at 2:46 pm

Hi Greg, do a search for Steve Wozniak (Apples co founder) for S3 and Iphone 5 and it should confirm that you won’t be behind the 8 ball.

Both are great phones (I am a Note user). Apple has invested a lot on usability and that was Steve Jobs magic but many (me included) would say that the Android is just as good.

If your primary use is a phone with some computing power, either are great. If you want more computing power, then consider the Note 2.

I do everything from taking meeting notes through to currency trading on my note.

I really cant deiced what phone to get. Before the Iphone 5 came out I was leaning that way. But lately I am leaning toward the Note II. If someone can answer me this thought it would really help. Is Siri much better than the Google look? How is the interface with android when in sync with computer? And how is the battery life on the Note II?

    • brandnew234

      10/17/2012 at 7:42 am

I’m not sure what Google Look is, maybe you mean Google Now? Google Now provides information based on your location, time, and events. It works better the more data you allow it to use, and Google Voice now has natural language recognition, so you can just tell your phone to search something like “who wont the chicago football game” and it will display a window of information about the game, or ask it the weather. “call pizzahut” and it will call the nearest Pizzahut to your location.
Android syncs in the background, it syncs music, contacts, and photos to the cloud so wherever you log into your gmail you have access to everything. Contact info is stored in gmail, in the Contacts section. Look up Google Music for music syncing info. Also, Apps can be integrated into the OS automatically, so adding another social network is easy.
The Galaxy Note 2 has the 2nd biggest battery ever put inside a phone, it gets 16 hours of talk time, 9 hours of web browsing, and 11 hours of video playback. It should last even power users a day pretty easily, and it also has better battery life than the iPhone (except for web browsing).

I’m going to get either the Note 2 or the next Galaxy Nexus. My iPhone 3gs has been a good phone but I’ve been waiting for the past two iPhone releases for a larger screen. The tiny, incremental screen size increase on the iPhone 5 doesn’t cut it FOR ME. I’m also quite fed up with having to use iTunes to put music and video content onto my iDevices (have a 3rd gen iPad as well).

@JazzyMegalodon: my wife has a Galaxy Nexus so I’ve played with iOS 6 Siri as well as Google Now. Both are quite good. I like the fact that Google’s voice recognition works offline, though. Samsung has some kind of syncing software (I think it’s called Kies) but I’ve never used it. To move content to/from my wife’s phone, I just plug it into my PC and drag/drop files back and worth (it shows up as a mass storage device). The Note 2’s battery life sounds like it is fantastic. I have zero worries about it.

I’ll miss the huge numbers of apps available for iOS but I’ve gone through the apps I use on my iPhone and for 90% of them, the same publisher makes a version for Android. For everything else, I’ll just have to find an Android version from another publisher. I think I’ll lose out most on games but, then again, I find that I typically play games on my iPad, anyway, due to its larger screen.

Really looking forward to having USB versatility (Note 2 supports USB 2.0 host mode) so I can attach all sorts of stuff (USB hub, keyboard, hard drive, ethernet adapter, sd/cf card reader, HDMI, etc) and be able to back up images from my DSLR cards to an external hard drive while travelling. 3100 mah battery of the Note 2 should also be great for long plane trips, plus I have the option of swapping in a spare battery.

Im apple through and through but i have ordered the note2.
Apple were the best and no one could touch Steve Jobs’s vision to be the best until he died last year.
Now you have TIM Cook an ageing old man who aim is to rape all the apple clan of as much money as possible for his retirement fund.
Not having google maps will save millions when the google/apple contract runs out more for mr TIM.
Im not going to go as far as to say the new iphone5 has many new features as it dosn’t, it just has them enabled as i know if you jailbreak a iphone 4 you can enable the panoramic disable feature (they still dont enable this on ios6 on the iphone4 shame on you apple)
Itunes is a pain to put music on and have you ever tried to get your music off your phone if you trash itunes, android drag and drop both ways easy.
Open you eyes Apple clan (i was one of you), your dedication built up by steve is being shattered by TIM.
Buying a apple device was for life and you had the support, now a year after Steve has gone even the support for the iphone4 if fast failing, iphone 3 users are now peasants in apples eyes, its the same story on the imac trust me.
Even internet tethering is a chargable affare created by apple and free on the android
    Why im moving.
1…IOS6 sucks without google maps, dont ever put it on a iphone4 as it removed utube and google maps and does it give you this wonderful 3D maps or panaramic picture taking hell no.
2…putting music/video’s on or off the phone is a pain in the ass
3… replacing the battery is a send to apple job
4… no way to increase the memory storage

Read some of the reviews of S3 VS Iphone5 and the S3 even thou its been around for 6 months kicks its ass, the note2 kicks the S3’s ass.

    10/13/2012 at 11:04 am

I agree with you kevin. I’d been using the iphone since it came out but over the years became more and more jaded by apples business model – extract as much cash as possible from iusers as quickly and as oftenas possible and once a product is over a year old withdraw all support and force them to buy the incrementally improved new version. Also itunes used to be fantastic but as before its become just another a cash cow for apple. The customer comes last.

Dont get me wrong – apples products are way cooler to look at than samsungs but ultimately its all bark from the idoggy and no bite.

I got the note 1 about a 6 months ago when my 4s failed and i was quoted £250 to repair it. So i thought…. Ive had enough of apple exploiting me with poor quality products.

Note was my first android devive and WOW! What a revelation. Packed with features, superb screen (i watch a lot of movies and regularly browse), simple to use, expandable memory, changeable battery, and most importantly – NO ITUNES!!!

Of course its horses for couses and i doubt apple users will buy into all this but i for one as a former iaddict will NEVER buy another apple product…. Apple are the new microsoft.

Finally, you get used to yhe size of the note after a couple of days…. Ive never had any comments and i use it as a phone all the time!

Horses for coursed. I bought my wife and IPAD. She loves it, I on the other had find it very restrictive. Apple’s stance against USBs, and discouraging any other form of input (stylus, swype etc) makes the product unfriendly for me.

Like Andy, I am totally against Apple’s business model, they have become the very thing they ridiculed about Microsoft.

I have been using the first Galaxy Note for 6 months. Got used to the size within a week and found others way too small, two handed, yes but its a small price to pay.

I am eagerly awaiting the Note 2.

Call me sentimental, i loved Apple, hated apple, but now am just sad for the company. It really matter this much when SJ left. Now looking at the company, its spirit has been gone with Jobs to the heaven.

Despite the sentiments, all I have to ask, now, is “Nokia much?”

Remember at 2008, when Nokia’s days were like a roller coaster coming down a hill? Nokia used to = the innovation in the cell phone world (at least in RoW other than the North America), but look at their confounded status right now, AND, their stock price! I really wish that Apple (or at least iPhone) will not follow Nokia’s path just a couple of years ago, but…the emergence of iPhone5 right now really really reminds of the announcement of N97…

iPhone 4 was the last note-worthy innovation I saw from the Apple, and it is probably equivalent to where Nokia’s N73 was. Then, all phones from Nokia fell flat, so did every iPhone afterward… And I see a bad sign here.

May god and Steve Jobs be with you, iPhone.

The stups facetime still cant use 3G nor 4G also, still dependvon wifi…whybbother to put 4G anyway if u cant even use it for your own apps?

I have ipods, ipads but never iphone, it just too ridiculos now, w d price and the business model w all d tiny improvement…..whats ‘ cutting age’ about iphone now?
    NOTHING… Agree with tb2091…
Iphone starts to feels like nokia phone last time, and d fact that most people buy without knowing what its good for…just bcoz its cool n everybody have it…. Ipoop….

    If you are an:
    1. Apple fan: iphone 5, you would buy it even if everyone says note 2…..
    2. Non apple fans but havent yet realised that android is better: I suggest note 2 bcoz if u buy an iphone u will have a feeling(regret) somewhere in ur heart whenever note 2 reminds you about its massive specs and features.
    3. Those who have used android ICS or JB : certainly note 2, who can tollerate apple’s restrictive stuff.

What was even better is i installed the kies software and plugged the phone in, up popped a message saying i have a iphone4 backup on this computer do i want to transfer contact, messages, music, video’s and pictures.
How clever is that i bet apple will be sueing for that one.
I hope apple get over there issues as i do love apple they just lost customer focus.

Just made the switch from iphone to note 2. Im quite happy. Used double twist to sync my itunes library. Kies to add other media, movies and such. Took me a few days to figure out how to get all the functionality I had in my iphone to translate in the note 2. I like that I have full control of my media, I can manipulate, push and pull my data from phone to computer at will. Movies look great, ebooks are very readable.
This phone has so much functionality, it blows me away. Short of some unforseen defect, id strongly recommend it.

    1136 x 640 isn’t 16:9. 1136 / 640 = 1.775 while true 16:9 screens are 1.7777… (like the Note 2 1280 x 720 resolution). Somehow I don’t feel upset by the fact that iSheeps swallow all what Apple (read Big Brother) says.

Anyway, the original Note screen resolution and aspect ratio kick the stuff out of anything else. I am all for 8/5 (aka 16/10); not too wide, not to squared, a nice Fibonacci ratio that film industry and display manufacturers are dropping in favor of scalable economy… sad story

I’m an definitely an apple fan. Stopped at Sprint last week mainly to check out the Iphone 5, but also seen the Samsung Note 2 and held and played with it for a while. What an awesome phone and it really wowed me. Glad to see some positive reviews on the large phone as it has won me over against buying Iphone5. I guess the cons don’t bother me as I’m tired of my 4″ screen Android and like the big screen. I can hold the Note 2 in one hand pretty well. Better than the first Note One I held months ago. Plastic phones don’t bother me either since I’ll put a case over it anyways.

Seems like steve jobs just brainwashed the consumer into something that is supposedly “amazing” but in reality it doesnt compete with smartphones to date

@stephan Ill go ahead and respond to your other comment to me over here. I will go ahead and guarantee that i have researched this more than yourself. The note 2 beats the iPhone 5 with a benchmark of about 1800-1850 on geek bench vs the iPhone 5’s 1650. the iphone is a 1.3 ghz dual core vs a 1.6 quad core, so its not going to win in the benchmarks. I have OWNED both devices, and don’t just look at the processor benchmarks. did you check the gpu benchmarks? why don’t you do your research to see how the gpu benchmarks play out. so before you go ahead and comment to other people about being “brainwashed” perhaps get your facts in line. oh and ill do the research for you, the note 2 scores 1975 , and the iPhone 5 scores 3290 for offscreen 1080p on gl benchmark.

but I’m probably just brainwashed (odd that i would have bought a note 2 for my fiancé. Bad apple fanboy i guess) so go ahead and look into it for yourself.

have a great day, and have fun Trolling :)

All these reviews keep saying the Note 2 will be available in 16, 32 and 64 gig….WRONG. Only available in 16 gig and you can’t move apps to the external SD = FAIL. So think I’m going to swap my Note 2 out for the i5

Your loss, because you can, indeed put maps in the external SD, all it needs is some tinkering and a rooted phone but hey, go play with your over priced paper weigh that can’t even be used as an external hard drive.

When it comes to USA LTE carriers only having 16GB internal memory, you need to blame the USA LTE carriers. USA LTE carriers feel that USA customers like you can’t afford the 32GB and 64GB versions.
There are some tricks to use SD card to store some of your apps. Go to xda forums for more information.
I would think that the a customer would consider more than 16GB internal memory when choosing a mobile platform (Android, iOS, Blackberry, and Windows 8 mobile). Just saying.

Your specs on the Note 2 is WRONG!!!! its 2.0 GHz not 1.6 GHz. Please, get your facts straight before writing aticles like this!!! And to all of the comment saying that the Note 2 does not come with 32GB and 64GB.. YES IT DOES! Please search on google before making an ass of yourself!

But then again, a 16GB Note 2 with an expandable external memory is more than satisfaction to me. Also, 80% of the comments here is fanboys battle.

You need to get your facts straight. Galaxy Note 2 CPU is Quad core 1.6 GHz not 2.0 GHz. The Random Access Memory (RAM) is 2GB. And the Internal memory for USA carriers versions is 16GB. 32GB and 64GB was not available through USA LTE carriers. Most likely because the USA carriers are in fear that 32GB and 64GB versions will be too expensive for their customers.
Don’t give me wrong, I love my Galaxy Note 2. But does no good making something that isn’t.
So I don’t get your point.
