LG Optimus Nexus Detailed: HD Display, Quad-Core, November Launch

Published

on

It looks like the LG Optimus G Nexus, which was partially outed yesterday, has now come to the surface for all to see. Well, at least in specification form.

MoDaCo is saying that it has received the nearly full specification list for the LG Optimus G Nexus and while some of it is indeed pretty, there are other parts that may have some people shaking their heads.

At this point, it’s unclear if this will be the only Nexus smartphone Google launches, rumors at this point to that not being the case, but this looks to be at least one of the devices arriving this year.

This design likely won’t come with LG’s Nexus.

The LG Optimus G Nexus will apparently boast these specifications when it arrives at some point in mid-November:

  • Based on Optimus G, but sports a different look
  • Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
  • Quad Core Snapdragon S4 processor
  • 2GB RAM
  • 1280×768 True-HD IPS screen
  • On screen soft keys
  • 8 Megapixel Camera
  • No microSD slot
  • 8GB and 16GB versions only
  • Non-removable battery
  • Wireless charging built in
  • No retail name yet

Several key things to note here. One, the design is different. So the LG Optimus G that was announced for AT&T and Sprint won’t look the same as this device. Two, it has no name. So, at this point, we’re going to start calling it the Optimus Nexus since that sounds much better than Optimus G Nexus.

And three, it apparently won’t have a microSD card slot, a non-removable battery and only two storage options including 8GB and 16GB. If those two are true, then this might be a hard sell for both Google and LG.

Additionally, it again appears that it will be running a new version of Android, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, which is said to be an incremental upgrade over Android 4.1.

We assume that the software, like all Nexus devices, will be vanilla in flavor.

The Optimus Nexus is rumored to be joined by devices from HTC, Sony and Samsung, the latter of which may be looking to offer the Samsung Galaxy Nexus 2.

We will likely know more once Andy Rubin takes the stage at All Things D: Dive Into Mobile on October 29th.

Not buying a phone that doesn’t have a removable battery. Period.

Totally agree. I have had my Droid Charge only just over a year and have gone through 2 batteries, both of which now suck. I have to charge my phone twice a day. Also…. NO SD slot with only 8Gb and 16GB? That doesn’t make sense.

Internal storage must be a typo especially since the AT&T version is reported to have up to 32GB, plus an expandable memory slot. Can’t see a flagship nexus phone having lower specs than the generic carrier version

Built in wireless charging? Oh yea! :)

Without an SD slot, anything less than 32GB of memory is a deal breaker for me, regardless of the rest of the hardware.

Totally agree, good games takes easily 2gb of storage. I’m on galaxy nexus right now and the 16gb isn’t enough for me. If a 32gb won’t be available so I’m going with LG Optimus G (already announced with 32gb) and will expect a cyanogen build.

Android 4.2 is not Jelly Bean. True HD is not 1280 x 768. It will more likely sport a 1080p screen if there has really been mention of “full HD”.
