T-Mobile iPhone 5 Nano SIM Cards Arriving Early

Published

on

Officially, there are only three major U.S. carriers that offer the iPhone 5, a list that includes AT&T, Sprint and Verizon. And while T-Mobile, the nation’s fourth-largest carrier was left out of the official party, those who wish to easily use the T-Mobile iPhone 5 can now do so.

It appears that shipments of Nano SIM cards, for use with the iPhone 5’s new Nano SIM tray have begun arriving at at least some T-Mobile stores in the United States, this according to TMoNews.

The shipments have arrived earlier than their presumed mid-October arrival date though it’s unclear exactly how many stores have the Nano SIMs available in stock. T-Mobile hasn’t announced anything yet so details surrounding the launch still remain murky. Those who are interested will want to call their local store ahead of time in order to prevent a wasted trip.

iPhone 5 Nano SIM cards for T-Mobile have arrived.

T-Mobile’s Nano SIM offering now means that those who wish to use the iPhone 5 on T-Mobile’s network can now do so in a fashion that is much easier and safer than slimming down a MicroSIM card to fit into the iPhone 5’s Nano SIM card slot. The iPhone 5 remains the only device in the United States that utilizes a Nano SIM card.

Those who buy a Nano SIM card from T-Mobile will be able to use an unlocked iPhone 5 on T-Mobile’s EDGE network and in some places, its HSPA+ network as well. T-Mobile’s 1900Mhz HSPA+ spectrum for the iPhone 5 remains fairly scarce but T-Mobile will be firing up new markets as time goes on.

For iPhone 5 owners on Verizon, the process of switching over to T-Mobile using a Nano SIM card is simple because the device arrives unlocked. This means that it will work on AT&T or T-Mobile provided the user is using the right SIM card.

Otherwise, a new unlocked iPhone 5 on AT&T will be needed and those have unfortunately not gone on sale yet. We are expecting a launch soon but so far, Apple has not given any indication.

We do know how Apple will price the devices though and it’s not going to be cheap. Apple will sell the unlocked iPhone 5 for $649.99. And that’s for the 16GB model. The models with more storage space will check in with much steeper price tags. An unlocked 32GB iPhone 5 model is $749.99 while the 64GB iPhone 5 will cost $849.99.
