Why You Should Wait to Buy the Nexus 7

If you’re thinking about purchasing a Nexus 7 this month, whether it’s for yourself or as a gift for a holiday, stop what you’re doing and put that credit card back into your wallet. because buying a Nexus 7 right this moment would be a grave error. Here’s why.

While the Nexus 7 has its flaws, it’s a solid tablet not only at its price point, but in general. It offers a 7-inch display that brings HD resolution to the table, it sports a quad-core processor, a front-facing camera, a high-quality design and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean all for either $199 (8GB) or $249 (16GB).

And given its specs, its portability and its price, many consumers are likely looking at it as a tablet option not only for right now, but for the holiday season as well. Problem is, right now is the absolute worst time to buy Google’s first Nexus tablet.

That’s because it looks like Google has something up its sleeve for the holidays.

Right now, there are several Nexus 7 based rumors out there that suggest that Google may be gearing up for a major holiday push in an effort to better compete against Amazon’s new Kindle Fire HD and Apple’s rumored 7.85-inch iPad Mini.

Why You Should Wait to Buy the Nexus 7

Over the past week, the rumors about Google’s new Nexus smartphone have picked up and looks like the new Nexus smartphone will be made by LG and might be called the LG Nexus 7. This is relevant because the device is rumored to be launching on October 29th at the All Things D: Dive Into Mobile conference where Andy Rubin, Google’s Android chief, is scheduled to speak.

Rubin is also likely to touch on the Nexus program as a whole and that, if rumors are correct, could mean new tablets. Several of them if current rumors in regards to Google’s Nexus tablet plans prove to be accurate.

32GB Nexus 7

The most heavily rumored of the bunch is a 32GB Nexus 7.

Right now, Google only offers the Nexus 7 in two sizes, 8GB and 16GB. 8GB is an extremely small amount of space but it enables Google to sell the device extremely cheap at $199.

However, evidence suggests that Google may be replacing the 16GB model with a slimmer 32GB Nexus 7 that would keep the same price as the 16GB model, $249, while adding more storage space for things like movies and games. It could also keep the 16GB model and drop that to $199 to make room for the entry-level $99 Nexus 7.

And trust me, you and your loved ones will certainly appreciate the space. I regret ever buying a 16GB iPad and if Google had offered a 32GB Nexus 7 at launch, it’s the Nexus 7 I would have bought. Not having to worry about storage space is a comfort that you only come to appreciate after it’s gone.

$99 Nexus 7

In addition to the 32GB Nexus 7 rumors, there are also rumors of a cheaper $99 Nexus 7 which could wind up being Google’s 8GB Nexus 7 or something different entirely. It’s unclear how Google plans to achieve that price as it’s much lower than just about anything on the market. It could be that it winds up offering this device on-contract with a service provider.

Asus has denied this rumor as well as the 32GB rumor but that’s to be expected considering neither device has been announced yet.

Nexus 10

Google is also heavily rumored to be working with Samsung to release a device that may wind up being called the Nexus 10 due to the size of its display. The rumor states that the Samsung-made Nexus will feature a 10-inch display that will have a higher pixel density than the iPad.

It reportedly sports a 2560×1600 resolution with a pixel density of 299ppi (pixels per inch). By comparison, the new iPad offers a 2048×1536 resolution with a 264ppi. That could mean that text on the Nexus 10 will be sharper and clearer.

The rest of the specifications remain a mystery.

So it may be that Google releases another size option for the Nexus line of tablets which might be of interest for those who want larger screen real estate for their content.
