Droid RAZR & Droid RAZR MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich Bug Fix Update Could Arrive Soon

Now that the Motorola Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich update roll out appears to be imminent, Motorola’s next release needs to be the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX bug fix updates that owners have been desperately waiting for since the end of June.

It has been nearly four months since Verizon unleashed the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich updates and it has been nearly four months that owners have had to put up with bugged devices.

Way back when, we heard from a source that said that Motorola and Verizon had rolled out the updates too early, in an effort to meet the imposed deadlines, and because they did so, the software was riddled with bugs. Bugs, that unfortunately, are still not fixed.

The Droid RAZR still needs a bug fix update. Badly.

We also heard that the reason the Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich update was delayed was because Motorola and Verizon wanted to ensure that those bugs would not arrive on board the Droid Bionic’s update.

Today, we learned that Motorola is about to start a soak test for a Droid Bionic update, presumably the long lost Ice Cream Sandwich update. The company promised the roll out in Q4 and it appears that it’s on the verge of keeping that promise. And while this is great news for Droid Bionic owners, it’s also great news for those Droid RAZR MAXX and Droid RAZR owners out there who are waiting for a bug fix.

We imagine that Motorola finally got the ICS issues it was having with the Droid Bionic and that could mean several things for the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX ICS bug fix update. And because it apparently solved those issues, we imagine that it probably has figured out a thing or two in regards to the bugs plaguing the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX.

In addition, now that the Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich update has seemingly been taken care of, the two companies can now turn their attention to fixing these two devices, if they haven’t already.

Now I’m not saying a roll out is right around the corner but at this point, I think we’re as close as we ever have been. Originally, we were told that the bug fix update would roll out close to the Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich update and hopefully, that’s still the case, even if they both took a little longer than many owners expected.

Anyone out there still experiencing issues on the Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX?

As a Motorola Photon owner, I’ve unfortunately come to find out just how much Motorola’s promises and commitments mean to them. Why on earth do you believe that Motorola will do anything at all for Razr owners? If they were going to do anything with the time this has opened up for them, how about release some of those other updates that had been promised (Atrix, Electrify, Photon, etc)

  2. Ernest says

After my bad experiences with ICE, I’m not sure if I will trust the so called “fix” if and when it comes out. And, to force us to wait over 4 months for a fix, should have been a criminal offense.

yeah I’d take jb at this point. I feel like I should hold a memorial service for gb, it was so good. I don’t even think of ics as having “bugs” – more like it’s just plain stupid… I mean, a volume rocker that doesn’t control notification volume? it’s not a bug, it’s either an inexcusable oversight or a really retarded programming choice. but I’m sure jelly bean will drop after we’ve all had our razrs for 20 months, then a new phone to which we upgrade will ship with it, it’ll be perfect, and then 10 days later 5.0 will push to it and that’ll suck. I’m sure, though, that google will care by then. given their track record.

  4. @LikwidE says

My razr maxx is still a laggy, buggy, battery draining mess. Even after the fixes suggested like factory reset and cache clearing. There is a significant change in my phone after the ics update. It’s extremely irritating considering how awesome it was when I purchased it with gb.

It’s too bad Motorola sucks so much. I really like the MAXX but I will never buy another Motorola phone again.

Amen to that. I’ve been a long time moto user, but they lost their way And don’t really understand smartphone users and their dependence their devices for business and personal communications. Probably time to consider Samsung who is leading in technology, functionality and Marketshare across multiple carriers. I’m not willing to consider Apple, but They’re good for my parents.

    • nerohero says

Im with you, loved the razr maxx but jesus the company sucks… Im out, never again goodbye moto

    • Ray says

Same here!!! This is unacceptable and then they have the nerve to release their NEW phones!!! Really? What about us? They have lost a customer. No more.

  6. Ritchie says

I am not sure what has happened over at moto, I remember the past with solid products and now I deal with constant battery pulls and freezes :(…. and worst part about all of this is when you call Verizon and then they pass you over to moto and they say all the key trigger words (we are working diligently to resolve the issue -ohandanotherone-I LOVE we will be contacting you shortly with a response to your issues) However you sir there and days turn to weeks then to months. ITS SO BAD I have just learned to live with getting screwed by Verizon and Motorola. Just sad…..

My Maxx is the first Motorola I have ever owned. After having horrible experiences with 3 Samsung phones, I waited for the Maxx and I loved it…until ICS hit it. I could go 2 1/2 days without charging it, with moderate to heavy use. Since ICS, I have had to do 3 FDR’s, countless resets, and I am charging at least once a day. And for the past month I intermittently lose sound on apps, crashes, and it will act posessed…random apps will open, one after the other while I’m not even touching the phone, with no control.

Verizon tech support is useless. Their response to every call us to do an FDR.

  8. Irritated MAXX user says

Issues?? Dude asked if anyone is still experiencing issues….what a stupid question!
ICS has basically turned one of the best phones made into a paperweight!
    Nice job moto and verizon!

My Maxx Crashes daily. Battery life is about crap. Signal fades in and out all day. 4G then nothing then no signal then 3G and loops all over again.

Even as I type this my phone sits there stuck. If next update doesn’t
hit soon, will switch to apple. Get thissh’*t fixed!!!!!

Sounds like a Led Zepplin song to me..How many more times, tell me, an updates commin’. How many more times, lead me on like a fool.

  10. CJ says

I really hope they do fix the bugs soon. I haven’t really had any issues except just 1. I feel as if the leak screwed up my camera. I don’t have a true clarity on my pictures as I did on my DROID X. I could take pictures from a far distance and not tell there were words on wall until I zoom in and I could read is clearly. But now on the RAZR maxx it just sucks!!

  11. PixieDust8184 says

Issues…that’s funny! I have to charge my battery at least once a day, sometimes twice. I can’t retrieve my email from my primary account. My phone will text and call people without me touching it. Apps will open on their own. I’ll suddenly lose sound for apps like MY MUSIC. The signal comes and goes. Swype keyboard is possessed. If this phone had been like this when I bought it I would have returned it. I went from having one of the best phones out there to having a piece of garbage! Shame on Verizon and Motorola for releasing something that wasn’t ready…

  12. DustyG2006 says

I was getting so frustrated and annoyed with my Razr it made me decide to try out the iPhone 5 and sell my Razr on eBay. I’m waiting to see how the Razr HD is going to be to decide if I want to switch back. Come on Motorola, you not only made me switch phones, you made me switch to Apple!

  13. Tony says

I hate this phone. I need to reset it at least twice a day. Screen doesn’t wake when in standby mode often. Google nav voice works half the time, bluetooth disconnects from car often, etc. etc. Any body see these issues?

  14. Swede says

The posts here all sound pretty similar: ICS brought about bad battery life, sluggishness, strange app activity when the phone isn’t being touched, etc. Here’s a complaint I didn’t see from anyone else, but I have it…when I connect the phone to a PC via USB, the default is mass storage mode, and the battery icon shows its little “charging” symbol. After it’s been connected for a little while, the charging symbol goes away, and I can’t access folders and files on the phone or SD card from the PC. If I power the phone all the way down and back up, I get the charging symbol back, and I can access folders and files again, but it’s temporary. Eventually, the connection goes south again. Anyone else having this problem?

    • Rob says

I haven’t experienced exactly that but at times I wonder if it’s even charging because around 80%-90% it shows no sign of being so. Even did a factory reset myself. First day it was almost back to normal and over time it’s gotten worse than before. I hate using 10% brightness…

  15. Rob says

Still don’t understand why, since it’s taken this long, they haven’t dropped the bug fixes and have been working on getting JB instead. We’re getting JB eventually, and they have to be smart enough to learn from their mistakes and not screw us over a second time. I call major inefficiency…So now we continue to wait for this and then JB. Wewt!!!

  16. Carlos says

I’m in NC and updated to ics this morning. I LOVE IT! My bionic runs great its like having a new phone!

  17. KJ says

why is it they can fix it on the razr hd and hd maxx but cannot or should i say will not fix our maxx and rzr im beginning to want to throw this paper weight away and do a tract phone atleast i would expect it to do anything other that ring and text

  18. MS says

I went into a VZ store and spoke with the service manager who also owes the Razr Maxx. He said he has no problems and that he hasn’t heard of any. I don’t believe him. I want Verizon to refund my money, but they will not. I’m not sure what’s best to do. From what I can tell, no one has any answers on this. We are not even sure if Moto or VZ are even addressing the issue. Very frustrated as I swtiched from Sprint to get the better 4g coverage of VZ. However, what good is it when it constantly looses data signal?

  19. Hortonia says

Do the clear cache trick listed above and it fixes most everything. Droid Razr Maxx owner who is still loving phone, only minor issue is with browser every once in a while. Battery is still diesel, just clocked in at 1 day 11 hours and 55 minutes of use!

      • Rob says

It’s listed everywhere. Google for DROID RAZR ICS bug fixes and you’re bound to find it. Other is factory reset. Clearing the cache partition noticeably helped me, but overall my RAZR was still a piece of **** after. Factory reset also noticbly helped, yet again in the long run, it’s not running like GB and have no benefits of ICS apparent.

        • Tony says

Clearing the cache did fix anything. This software is so buggy that I have to hard reset at least once a day. Horrible. Never a Motorola again.

  20. Don says

Of course we are still having problems, there hasn’t been a fix released yet, so why would the problems just go away! Personally, the fix should be either a program to revert back to Ginger Bread or forward to Jelly Bean. Screw ICS !!! Anyone remember Windows Vista? Windows XP worked fine and then they rushed out the crappy Vista. Same here, pushing out bad software like a dog crapping on the ground!
Motorola and Verizon, give me a new Razr Maxx HD with Jelly Bean and give you back my Ice Creamed Razr Maxx !!!

  21. Hortonia says

Do you have any launchers running? Previously, I used GoLauncher with Gingerbread. However, using GoLauncher with ICS caused a ton of glitches, bugs and basically a lot of what is described in this post. As soon as I uninstalled GoLauncher and all the “Go” related apps, my phone ran like a charm. Battery life was better, apps loaded faster and no lock-ups. The only noted item I cannot resolve is the stock Browser “freeze” that occasionally happens. Anyone know what causes that?

  22. andray says

I was one of the first people that ordered this piece of garbage by mistake , leaking battery too fast, need to charge at least 2 time a day, internet browser freezing, screen doesn’t go to sleep, low 3g signal andstay long time without signal durig switch between 3g and 4g and WiFi, in low battery screen turn to maximum brightness, screen rotation take long time it was better before ICS update, over heating even when this piece of garbage in my pocket, operating apps too slow,
i bought this garbage just for i must wait one month for Iphone 4s that time instead they will send this piece of garbage (DROID RAZR) in one day!

  23. elise weber says

Just got a replacement RAZR MAXX because my other one has been factory reset THREE times since May. After the ICS update the phone would get really hot and battery would drain. Sometime sound would quit working, sometimes screen tilt would stop working, sometimes couldn’t download or delete a program. Would lose connection or ability to connect at all. I would have to shut down phone and restart it to fix these problems. Finally got so bad when phone kept heating up so fast that it was completely unusable, one time battery temp was 114!.

I got a new phone shipped out and stopped in at the store to get it up and running. I came home thinking I was finally going to have a phone that worked properly. I sat down and started downloading my programs and getting the phone set up the way I like it. My son called and I talked to him for 30 min and with less than 4 hours of fiddling with the phone and a 30 min. phone call the battery was COMPLETELY DEAD!.

So much for a new phone that works. I’m so disgusted now. What really makes me the angriest about this whole mess is that before the ICS update everything was fine. I didn’t want to upgrade, but apparently it’s mandatory. (because I’d also had problems with my first Droid phone after an upgrade and so did my daughter) I don’t understand why consumers don’t have a choice in these things. Any other product you buy can’t be randomly changed by the seller after you buy it.

I guess now I have to go back to the store and have them send another replacement. The problem is I know these replacements are just other phones that some other person sent back so I’m just trading my problem phone for someone elses problem phone. I’m not even a whole year into the contract. This sucks.

Loved my Max until the ICS update. Having all the same issues and I bought this phone because Motorola makes the best Droid phones and I am expecting my first child so needed something reliable. Hoping JB does fix the issues caused by ICS, because I don’t know what I will do….as I am approaching my third replacement in 5 months. Frustrating, and as a former Verizon employee I understand completely the limitations they have in correcting the issues directly :(
