Motorola Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich Soak Test Planned for October 19

Published

on

Earlier today, we learned that Motorola has started to send out invites for a Droid Bionic soak test. We have now confirmed that that soak test is indeed for the Motorola Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich update and that the soak test may be deployed on October 19th.

A source, who has been invited to be a part of the Motorola Droid Bionic soak test, informed Gotta Be Mobile that the soak test is indeed for the long-awaited and delayed Motorola Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich update. We assumed that that was the case earlier today as we haven’t heard about any other updates for the Droid Bionic that would require such an endeavor. One thing we didn’t know however was when it would roll out.

According to our source, the Droid Bionic ICS soak test roll out is currently planned for Friday, October 19th.

The Droid Bionic ICS soak test could begin on October 19th.

Based on previous soak tests, which are generally fairly short, this could mean that the update will roll out to the public the week of October 22nd, possibly during the middle of the week. This of course is assuming that the testing of the update goes well. It’s possible that soak test could reveal some new bugs but until it rolls out, that’s impossible to know.

It’s also possible that Motorola could push the date back, or better yet, move it forward, but at this point, it looks like October 19th is the day that the company has set for the roll out.

The Motorola Droid Bionic is one the last higher-end smartphones waiting for its Ice Cream Sandwich update, an update that was originally supposed to arrive in early Q3 but was delayed until Q4 for unknown reasons.

We heard that the update was delayed due to the massive amounts of bugs found inside the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich updates, updates that, to this day, haven’t been patched.

So, circle the week of October 22nd in pencil on the calendar as a possible roll out week for the Droid Bionic update but keep in mind, the date could change at any time.

Why so much hype on this soak test? There has been others before only to be kicked back to Moto by VZW because their bloatware didn’t work. Had it not been for Verizion, Motorola would have been on schedule for early Q3.

i have a bad feeling about this…all this fuss and in the end, if moto/vzw doesn’t deliver, there will be a few thousand more unhappy customers. I agree it all rests on vzw;s shoulders as they have the final say in to either upgrade an obsolete phone or wait until the holidays and collar more contracts with new, jellybean loaded phones. I also question the date, the last soak test i was in, they didn’t release a date, they just sent me an email invite, then days later a confirmation and hours later I was the guinea pig.

oh, and yes, ICS performed with awesome results but their focus was on the bloatware (after the flash issue) which didn’t pass muster…
