Droid RAZR HD & RAZR MAXX HD Off Contract Prices at Best Buy Revealed

Published

on

The Motorola DROID RAZR HD and RAZR MAXX HD will officially go on sale on October 18 for $199.99 and $299.99, respectively, but users who want the buy the phones at full retail will have to pay much more.

According to a trusted source the DROID RAZR HD will sell for $700 full retail at Best Buy stores when it goes on sale, and the RAZR MAXX HD will sell for $750 at full retail. That’s $50 and $100 more than an unlocked 16GB iPhone 5. Best Buy sometimes adds as much as $50 to full retail price, a pricing scheme the company uses on the iPhone 5, so the actual off contract prices could be $650 and $700.

Users might consider buying the DROID RAZR HD or DROID RAZR MAXX HD at full retail to keep their unlimited data plans on Verizon.

Verizon Wireless will force users with those contracts to downgrade to another contract without unlimited data if they buy a subsidized phone. The carrier cannot downgrade the plan if the user pays full retail for the phone and keeps the same plan, however.

Interestingly, while Verizon charges $100 more for the RAZR MAXX HD on contract, the difference at full retail is only $50.

Both the Motorola DROID RAZR HD and DROID RAZR MAXX HD feature a 4.7-inch 720p display and a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor. Both have the same 8MP rear-facing camera, Gorilla Glass front and Kevlar back.

The main differences between the phones are their batteries and storage capacity. The RAZR HD has a 2500 mAh battery and 16GB of internal storage. The RAZR MAXX HD has a larger 3300 mAh battery and 32GB of internal storage.

It would almost be cheaper to buy it on contract, then pay the ETF right off the batt. That would be $200+$325= $525(though taxes and extra fees prolly bring it to about the same.
