Verizon iPhone 5 Date & Time Issues Frustrate Owners
One of the biggest issues that is still plaguing some owners of the iPhone 5, and specifically, owners of the Verizon iPhone 5, is an issue where the time and date on the phone keep changing. Thus far, a permanent fix has not been offered, nearly a month after the iPhone 5 launched, though it looks like there might be a quick fix available for those who need one.
Since the launch of the iPhone 5, we’ve been hearing from numerous iPhone 5 owners who are experiencing an issue with a date and time issue wherein the Verizon iPhone 5 will randomly change the date and time of the phone. One user claims that his phone thought it was a few months earlier than it actually was and 30 minutes ahead of the actual time.
This seems to be a fairly widespread issue given the amount of emails from readers and given that there is a massive post on Apple’s forums with complaints from iPhone 5 owners.
Fortunately, there appears to be a temporary fix that some Verizon iPhone 5 users are saying works. While Apple and Verizon have yet to fix or even acknowledge the cause of the issue, it appears that iPhone 5 users have discovered that it might be 4G LTE that is causing the issues. Verizon iPhone 5 users say that the issue has occured when connected to Wi-Fi with LTE connectivity turned on and by turning 4G LTE off, the issue does not pop up.
Obviously, this is not an optimal fix given that 4G LTE is a prominent feature of the iPhone 5 but a temporary fix is definitely worth it if users are saved from a few iPhone 5 headaches.
Here is how to disable 4G LTE connectivity:
1. Go into Settings.
2. Tap General.
3. Tap Cellular.
4. Toggle Enable LTE to Off.
Again, this apparently has fixed the issue for some Verizon iPhone 5 owners but we aren’t sure if it will work for everyone that is dealing with this issue.
We’ve heard from a few readers who say that Apple and Verizon are aware of the issue and that they may be concocting some sort of remedy that could arrive in the form of a software update. Unfortunately, there is no timetable for a fix, if there even is one, so this temporary fix is something to try in the meantime.
Any iPhone 5 owners still frustrated by this issue? We think it might be the cause for a lot of issues with the Do Not Disturb feature as well but at this point, we can’t be sure.
