Best Android 4.2 Features Arrive Early for Galaxy Nexus
On the heels of the Android 4.2 Photo Sphere leak for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus comes yet another Jelly Bean leak in the form of the Android 4.2 Google Apps that will be coming with the latest update.
The leak, courtesy of Android Spin, comes from a developer named KillDroidHack and it makes all of the core applications coming with the latest version of Android, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, available to Galaxy Nexus owners early.
In addition, it also appears that a Google Wallet APK has arrived for download as well and it can just be sideloaded onto the Galaxy Nexus. As for the Google Apps leak, it will take a little more than that.
The new apps for Gmail, the Calendar, the new clock, camera and the new keyboard are all included in this leak and those who wish to install it will need to be rooted and adept at flashing files as the apps come packaged in a zip file.
Users will then need to flash the zip file onto the phone and after a bit of installation time, the files will be ready to go and the Galaxy Nexus will be up and running with Android 4.2′s core applications.
Those who aren’t well-versed in the art of flashing will want to just hold off and wait until the official update arrives for the Galaxy Nexus, which, is something that could happen sometime this year.
It’s clear that Google is waiting to release Android 4.2 Jelly Bean to more devices until after the launches of the Nexus 10 and Nexus 4 on November 13th. Both of those devices will come with Android 4.2 right out of the box.
Soon after those launch, we expect the Nexus 7 to get its Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update and then after that, the Galaxy Nexus and Motorola Xoom should receive their Android 4.2 Jelly Bean updates.
For those that aren’t keen on waiting though, this is a leak worth taking a look at.
