Verizon Droid DNA Launch Date All but Confirmed

Published

on

The launch date for the HTC Droid DNA, HTC’s 5-inch Galaxy Note 2 competitor, looks set for November 13th as HTC and Verizon have begun sending out media invites to an event set to take place in New York City.

While the invite doesn’t reveal exactly what the companies will be announcing that day, the only device from both companies that’s on our radar at the moment is the HTC Droid DNA, a 5-inch phablet that will be competing against the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 for the attention of consumers this holiday season.

The phablet name comes from the fact that the devices marry the features of a smartphone and a tablet with large displays and in the case of the Galaxy Note 2, an S-Pen stylus with unique capabilities.

Expect the Droid DNA to launch on November 13th.

So, again, while not confirmed, it’s looking likely that this will be the launch date for the HTC Droid DNA and hopefully, given that it’s taking place amidst the holiday shopping season, we’ll get release date and pricing confirmation.

Of course, there is no guarantee that either of those will happen but because the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 already has pricing and a possible release date, we should see something emerge. The Galaxy Note 2 looks like it will launch on Verizon on November 29th with a price tag of $299.99. The device is already up for pre-order with that price tag attached to it.

The Droid DNA is expected to feature a 5-inch display and while it’s going to be HD, it’s unclear if it will be 720p or full 1080p HD. The device’s Japanese brother, the HTC Butterfly J, features a 1080p display so it remains a possibility.

It’s also expected to have 4G LTE speeds, a quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, NFC, and quite possibly, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Google’s previous version of Android. Because none of the Nexus devices have Android 4.2, Google’s latest operating system, it’s fairly clear that it will arrive with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Fortunately, we only have a few days before we find out.

So actually, it’s the announce day. The launch day would be the day consumers can get their hands on the devide to buy, and the 13th obviously won’t be that day.

In my book, launch date refers to the announcement date. That’s when it launches. The release date is the release date.
