Yesterday, Verizon revealed that it would be taking pre-orders for two of its upcoming Windows Phone 8 handsets, the Nokia Lumia 822 and the HTC Windows Phone 8X starting today. As expected, we now have ship by dates for both devices, both of which will be taking place next week.
Verizon’s website is now accepting pre-orders for both the Nokia Lumia 822 and the Windows Phone 8X, something that it announced yesterday. Something that it hasn’t announced however is when the devices will be touching down on retail shelves. Now, thanks to the pre-order, we have somewhat of an idea.
Both the Windows Phone 8X and the Lumia 822 are scheduled to start shipping out by November 13th. For those not keeping track, that’s next Tuesday. All variants of those devices will ship by Tuesday. However there is one model that will be arriving late. The red HTC Windows Phone 8X will be shipping out by November 21st.
These may be the actual retail dates but thus far Verizon remains mum about specifics only saying that they will be arriving earlier than Thanksgiving, November 22nd. So given the November 21st date, these appear to be close to if not exactly the release dates consumers are looking for.
It’s also possible that Verizon will ship them out sooner than their ship by dates but we aren’t optimistic.
These are the first Windows Phone devices on Verizon in quite some time as the carrier’s previous device, the HTC Trophy, has been on shelves for quite some time. The Lumia 822 and the Windows Phone 8X both run Microsoft’s latest operating system, Windows Phone 8 and the Windows Phone 8X in particular offers some serious hardware.
The Windows Phone 8X will be Verizon’s flagship Windows Phone 8 device. It features a 4.5-inch 720p display, a 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, and 1GB of RAM. The device will also come with wireless charging support.
The Lumia 822 features a 4.3-inch display with an 800×480 resolution. It also has dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, an 8MP rear-facing camera with a Carl Zeiss lens and a 1.2MP HD front-facing camera for video chat.
Verizon will be charging $199.99 on-contract for the Windows Phone 8X device and $99.99 on-contract for the Lumia 822 handset.
