Android 4.2 Jelly Bean December Bug Fix Coming Soon

Published

on

Google today promised that it would be rolling out a bug fix for Android 4.2 Jelly Bean that brings back the month of December in the Contacts application that is offered stock with the software.

In a post on its Android Google+ page, the company confirmed that indeed, the month of December is missing in the Contacts app when browsing through the optional fields. This bug prevents users from seeing important dates in December from within their Contacts meaning there is a potential to miss out on important dates like birthdays and anniversaries.

The bug does not affect Android 4.2’s Calendar application which functions as normal with December visible.

Google will issue an Android 4.2 update soon.

Google has promised to fix the error soon though it doesn’t say when and it doesn’t say whether or not the update will be Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean, though we assume that it probably will be.

Here is Google’s full statement about the bug:

We discovered a bug in the Android 4.2 update, which makes it impossible to enter December events in optional fields of the People app (this bug did not affect Calendar). Rest assured, this will be fixed soon so that those of you with December birthdays and anniversaries won’t be forgotten by your friends and family.

Soon could mean a host of different things. It could mean that an update is coming in the next day or so, the next few days, or even sometime in then next few weeks. We imagine Google won’t want the bug lingering there too long given that December is fast approaching and plenty of shoppers are going to be picking up Android 4.2 Jelly Bean devices in the next few months.

Android 4.2 Jelly Bean isn’t only affected by this bug either. In fact, the software is riddled with issues, both major and minor, issues that users are hoping get worked out in this update. Users have been reporting abnormal battery drain, lengthier than periods to charge the device, auto-brightness and Bluetooth issues, and random reboots.

Google hasn’t acknowledged those as it has with December so it’s unclear if they will be tackled with the next Android 4.2 update.

Did anyone mention to Google why Andoid 4.2 kept reporting “Unfortunately Gmail is not available”? This is very annoying and I hope Google would fix this issue too. This problem shows on my Nexus 7 (16 GB model).

My Nexus 7 keeps rebooting now and music playback stutters. This is new since the update. Hope they piggyback fixes for these along with fixing the December bug.

I’m new owner of Nexus 7, I can confirm the bug with missing december, but it is only in contact app, you can replace this app with many alternative apps from google play ;-)
