Microsoft to Patch Windows Phone 8 Rebooting Issue in December

Just in times for the holidays, Microsoft will deploy an over-the-air software update for Windows Phone 8 devices to correct an early issue that caused some smartphones running the company’s mobile OS to randomly reboot. The patch is expected to be arriving sometime in December and Microsoft has confirmed that it had identified the problem or glitch that is the culprit behind the random reboots.

“We’re continuing to investigate some reports of phones rebooting and have identified a cause with our partners,” the company said in a statement to All Things D. “We are working to get an over-the-air update out in December.”

Still, Microsoft is being vague about what the cause of the reboots are and if only select phone models are affected or if only some models are affected.

There are a few models of Windows Phone 8 available from manufacturers like HTC, Nokia, and Samsung at this time and Huawei will be introducing some new models at an unspecified date in the future.

Initially, it was speculated that the patch to fix the rebooting issue will be part of a larger software update for the platform, known as Apollo Plus, that would bring added features. However, it looks like as the problem has been identified, Microsoft may not want to wait and is rolling out the patch ahead of Apollo Plus.
