HTC ThunderBolt Ice Cream Sandwich Update Planned, Says HTC

The HTC ThunderBolt Ice Cream Sandwich update, once thought to be rolling out by the end of August, will soon be entering the fourth month since its delay. And while there is still no release date in sight, HTC is still informing customers that the HTC ThunderBolt Android 4.0 update will be rolling out. It just won’t say when.

In a statement provided to Gotta Be Mobile by a reader, an HTC representative goes into detail regarding the missing HTC ThunderBolt Ice Cream Sandwich update saying that while it will still be rolling out, a specific time for the roll out is unknown.

The response is similar to ones that we’ve already seen HTC reps deliver to frustrated HTC ThunderBolt owners but nonetheless it’s a good sign that representatives are still informing customers that the update is still slated to roll out.

Dear [Redacted],

Thank you for taking the time from your busy day to email HTC Technical Support. It is my understanding that you wish to know if your Thunderbolt will be receiving Ice Cream Sandwich.

[Redacted] it is my pleasure to share the information that is available to me. Your Thunderbolt will be receiving Ice Cream Sandwich. If your next question is when, then I can not give you an exact timeframe.

Please allow me to explain why. HTC no longer announces dates for release of software due to the nature of the software development process. The reason why, is that at any point in the software development cycle a situation may be encountered that requires anything from some minor additional rework, to complete rewrites of the software base.

Only after the final acceptance testing has been successfully completed will HTC release software. The normal time period between the final acceptance testing and release of software is about a week and often shorter than that.

Please do not think that we do not value you as a customer as this is not the case. I do apologize if that is the impression that was put across. Please do not hesitate to contact us at any time.
