T-Mobile iPhone Announcement Pegged for Next Week

Published

on

The T-Mobile iPhone 5 could become a reality next week according to an analyst with Merrill Lynch.

iPhone users are no stranger to T-Mobile, but a deal like this would mark the first time customers could buy an iPhone on T-Mobile, direct from a store.

According to Fortune, Merrill Lynch analyst Scott Craig believes that T-Mobile’s parent company, Deutsche Telecom, will announce an iPhone for T-Mobile USA at some point during the next week. The date is suggested to take place on either December 6th or December 7th. It’s clear which iPhone might be announced though we imagine that T-Mobile would likely want to offer the iPhone 5, Apple’s latest iPhone.

If a deal were to happen, it would give Apple access to over 75% of the United States’ mobile customers as it already features the iPhone on carriers like AT&T, Sprint, Verizon and an assortment of smaller carriers including C-Spire and Cricket Wireless.

T-Mobile might launch an iPhone next week.

T-Mobile doesn’t yet have a 4G LTE network in place, the network that supports the iPhone 5, though it does have an iPhone-compatible HSPA+ network up and running, a network that iPhone 5 owners are already taking advantage of. The network is small at the moment but already exists in cities like Houston, Kansas City, Las Vegas and Washington D.C.

The carrier will be launching a 4G LTE network at some point in 2013 though though T-Mobile remains mum on exact timing for the network’s roll out.

This is not the first time that T-Mobile has been rumored to be officially announcing the iPhone. In fact, it’s happened several times in the past. However, given that it has a HSPA+ network that is iPhone compatible and given that it will be launching a 4G LTE network at some point next year, it’s certainly possible that now might be the time for the carrier to announce it.

Of course, previous rumors have proved unfruitful and T-Mobile has been left to try and lure unlocked iPhone users to its network.

Apple’s latest iPhone is the iPhone 5, a device that was announced and released back in September of this year. The device features a 4-inch display, 4G LTE speeds, A6 processor, iOS 6 and a design fastened out of aluminum, glass and metal.
