Droid RAZR & RAZR MAXX ICS Bug Fix Update Still Missing Five Months Later

Five months after the Motorola Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich updates rolled out, a bug fix for the issues brought to users courtesy of Android 4.0 remains missing, even as Motorola prepares the Droid RAZR HD and Droid RAZR MAXX HD Jelly Bean updates.

At the end of June, on the last possible day in the promised roll out window, Motorola rolled out the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich updates to a bunch of thrilled users who were not only pleased that Motorola had hit its target window but that the update was actually rolling out after a several month wait. Turns out, they got way more than they bargained for.

The Droid RAZR ICS bug fix update is still missing, five months after ICS rolled out.

Almost immediately, it became clear that both Android 4.0 ICS updates for these devices were infested with bugs. Users right off the bat began complaining about a host of issues including poor battery life, Exchange sync issues, calendar issues, a sluggish and slow user interface, and more. These are issues that should not have been there from the beginning and owners have been paying the price for quite awhile now.

In fact, five months later, many of these issues still are affecting owners of the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX and five months later, there is still no word from Motorola or Verizon about any bug fix update to help alleviate these issues.

Over the past five months, we’ve heard from countless Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX owners who are frustrated with not only the lack of an update, but also with the lack of communication from Motorola and Verizon. In the past five months, while there have been rumors, we’ve seen nothing official pop to the surface in regards to a ICS bug fix for these devices.

At this point, with Verizon poised to roll out the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX Jelly Bean updates, it would be a great time for Motorola or Verizon to either confirm an update for the future or even better, roll one out.

This five month point is treading into Verizon Galaxy Nexus territory, a territory that plenty of Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX owners probably never thought they would be trekking into. The Verizon Galaxy Nexus received its first bug fix update more than five months after it was released in December of 2011.

Hopefully now that the Jelly Bean updates for the sequels to the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX are set to roll out, we’ll see something happen for Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX owners as the updates are five months overdue.

    Verizon should offer free upgade to RAZR HD for customers who have been ignored by Motorola…..makes me want to switch away from Motorola….had enough..

    Adam, I’m glad someone finally asked this question. Where is the patch to fix these flakey phones by motorola? Warning now to anyone buying the HD products, RUN! Go to Samsung, go to Apple. They will take your $$ and screw you, looking to hook the next sucker for two years of hell.

    Agreed, I will NEVER buy a Motorola again. Just got rid of my RAZR and upgraded to the Galaxsy SIII. Not only did Motorolla make us wait forever for the ICS update it was terrible and still not working well.

    I have tied every fix posted on every website. The phone works great for a time, then back to it’s awful self. Count yourself lucky if you have not had the issues that many of us have experienced. I don’t think that Verizon wants a bug fix for the Razr so that those of us grandfathered unlimited data users will be forced to buy a new phone, therefore, canceling our plan. My Droid Incredible was, may I say INCREDIBLE. I bought the Razr MAXX for the great battery life which was wonderful until ICS. I have to constantly reboot my phone. The signal is horrible. I can’t eve use my wifi while sitting in my living room away from the router in the family room. No problem for my Incredible or any other device. Motorola has lost a customer for good. They won’t care until more and more customers walk away. QUESTION: I love Android. Is the Samsung Galaxy a much better choice, or should I just give in and go Apple? What are others doing? I can’t get another phone until October, which I can hardly take.

    don’t blame the phone because you can’t figure out how use it. You All do realize that the phone works fine and the bugs are your doing. I am a heavy user with a lot of apps and I have no bugs and awesome awesome battery life. Stop blaming moto you morons

      Ok John, I’m sure you have no problems, but others do. They didn’t have problems before the ICS upgrade, just after. Other industry experts acknowledge issues, even Motorola. Try visiting the forum.

      Don’t be an ignorant ass. Just because you’re a heavy user, doesn’t mean a thing. It’s like saying because I’m a Christian, I know when Christ will come.

      If you know anything of consumer/enterprise technology and electronics, bugs happen and are experienced by some while others will never see them, for no reason. Just a mistake in some codes no one caught. But since you think a user base this large is somehow causing issues with their phone, that is nearly identical to any other Android based phone, that people aren’t causing their own issues with–tells me you don’t.

      Try to research subjects beforehand that you, appear to know, little about. You won’t make yourself look like a fool.

    Although I have not experienced all of the ICS problems the fact remains that the owners of these devices have been ignored due to the fact Motorola has put more effort into additional phones in the series. Not to mention that a large number of the RAZR & RAZR MAXX users still have an unlimited data plan that Verizon want eliminated. I don’t think a patch will ever be issued. I hope my pessimism is proved wrong, but after 5 months I don’t think it will.

    I need an update now. This is ridiculous we have to wait while all the new razors get the update. I can’t just go get a new phone and my bill to Verizon is high already. I don’t know why Motorola is ignoring all of us with the Droid Razor and Droid Razor Maxx.

    The only bugs I’ve noticed were some work email and definitely battery life. Verizon gave me 3 replacement maxx’s so far and this third one seems better than my brand new one or the other replacements. Time will tell haha but seriously we should be got the bug fixes or jb update first.

    Well, I got my maxx at the end of February 2012. Yes the battery life was great and phone was fast till the ICS update. After trying several things, I just loaded the .215 leak of ICS. After doing so, I noticed a battery life similar to the Gingerbread days. I still love my maxx and would not trade it in for anything. My advise to everyone is get yourself the .215 ICS leak and install it on your phone. It’s a software leak from Verizon so you won’t void the warranty of the phone.

      They knew they had problems and had the 215 build since July and have not made it generally available. They must have laid off the poor soul stuck with fixing the initial ICS release, or maybe the Motorola software team was ‘upgraded’ by the new Google management. Clearly Motorola knows they are behind in software, Samsung always beats them with the latest releases (NEXUS had ICS in December 11, while Motorola didn’t deliver ICS until the end of June 12, and even then the quality suffered as we unfortunately know. Then Samsung comes out with Jelly Bean and now Motorola prioritized a quick upgrade from ICS to Jelly Bean for their new HD products to try and capture the Christmas season, totally ignoring the original RAZR and RAZR MAXX users they screwed. Just remember how they treated you the next time you need a new phone. It could be your chance to return the favor.

    @SOPMOD how do you go about installing the .215 mod? and your 100% certain it wont void the warranty?

      Go to Droidforums.com. You have to search for it, but it explains how to install and everything.

      It is what it says,”a mod”.! This is only available to rooted users. it is not an official update by Motorola or Verizon. With this installed you will not receive any future over the air(OTA) updates. You will have to restore your your phone back to the 6.16.211 stock version using RSDlite or Razr utility 1.7 or 1.8 .
      It is a temporary fix. But not official.

    Thanks for keeping this issue active on Gotta Be Mobile. It’s ridiculous that we are still waiting for this. My phone is usable now, but was so much better before the ICS “update.” I do have an unlimited data plan and it is unnerving to think this is way to get rid of us.

      I’ll probably never buy a new phone from Verizon again. The take away from my RAZR experience is you don’t want to be on the bleeding edge with a Motorola phone unless you’re just playing Angry Birds all the time or willing to root it completely. If you use your phone for business, a more conservative approach is needed. Waiting until April/May, you’ll know if RAZR HD is stable with Jelly Bean and if its worth switching. You’ll probably be able to buy them used for <$300 and keep your unlimited data plan. You could also buy Samsung SIII or Note 2 used. I believe eventually Verizon will weed the number of unlimited plan users down and at some point just pull the plug on the unlimited plan for the remaining users because the number of users will be relatively small – sorry terms have changed!

    After several days of the usual stupid Verizon responses (clear the cache, do a factory reset, we’ll send you a used but “like new” replacement phone) I finally got through to Motorola tier 3 technical support. The rep immediately admitted what we all knew–that Motorola released a buggy ICS and hasn’t fixed it. She said they are working on a fix and had a meeting about it today. She was, however, unable to give me a release date, which casts doubt upon her story. I was *very* insistent, and she finally agreed to ask the engineers if there is a potential timeline, and whether there is any sort of interim fix. She has promised to call me back within 48 hours and I will share her response. In the meantime, I would hope that everyone having these issues would call and try to get a ticket number so that they know there are a lot of us. Motorola’s toll free number is 800-734-5870. Be prepared for some amazingly obtuse responses, but be persistent. If it becomes clear that you won’t go away, they will refer you to the next level.

      Well, hate to burst your bubble, but I just finished speaking with a Motorola representative who informed me that there is nothing in the near future for an ICS bug fix nor for Jellybean to hit the Razr or Razr MAXX. This has made me furious. This was a wonderful phone until the update. This is NOT acceptable for a phone that I bought THIS year. I am sure many of us were the Verizon unlimited people and now they have found a way to make sure we all must change our plans. It’s not that I need sooooo much data, but as a single person not sharing any minutes, it just increases what I pay per month for less. I am under contract and I can’t wait to say goodbye to Motorola!!!!!

        Just remember, Motorola is not the only one at fault here. If Verizon truly cared about their customers and customer satisfaction, they would have pressured Motorola to fix the software; but they didn’t. Consumers have choice and through their treatment of the consumer, Motorola AND Verizon have shown their true colors. Customers can exercise their choice; SCREW Motorola and go to Samsung, and since Verizon has decided to change their rules and screw you out of your unlimited plan, why stay with them when it is time to renew? SCREW VERIZON and go to AT&T. Google got what they wanted from Motorola – patents. Do you think they really care if Motorola disappears? That’s why it is still Motorola brand and Google sticks with NEXUS. Sink of swim Motorola, you’re on your own and pissing off a bunch of consumers.

          I wouldn’t even go with Samsung. As good or happy I may be with their products, the lifespan of technical upgrades for their products are sooooooooooo short. My Galaxy Tab 10.1 (2nd revision) won’t be getting JB. The Tab 2 will…the Tab 2 is the same exact thing except they moved the speakers.

          Personally I wanna try HTC next time around when I can get my upgrade. Even if Motorola turns things around, who’s to say they won’t pull this crap again.

            I have the razr and i must tell you that ive had an android powered divice since the g1 and ive also been with every manufacturer except sony when it comes to smartphones. So unless htc has done some major major improving your going to have the same problems you are worried about having with samsung. So stick with moto their getting better since googles in control or get a nexus

    I purchased the RAZR MAXX in Feb 12. Awesome devise–until ICS!! My MAXX is now a MIN. Many issues that are not resolved. I have Verizon and feel that they, along with Motorola, are in BREACH OF CONTRACT by not supplying me (and the rest of us) with the survices and a device (most of us bought at a Verizon represented store/website) we are paying for. If I am wrong, let me know.

    Everyone needs to file complaints with the better business bureau. F*(& Verizon, what used to be an awesome company, has now changed. They no longer care about the customer. Im done with this horrible company and im taking 8 people with me. :) Get everyone to cancel, if your going to receive lousy service and even worse customer service, may as well go to CRICKET, or Straight Talk much cheaper since I receive the same B.S. over and over from Verizon I may as well save money somewhere else while being F’d in the a$$. These people sent me over 6 Droids and they were all garbage. The VP of Relations is just as bad and unwilling to help as the rest of the company is. FILE A COMPLAINT!

    Here’s my main complaint: Since the ICS upgrade, my Razr lost some bluetooth capability with my car (2008 BMW) comm system. My car sees my phone, and calls go thru, but I cannot get the phone’s contact list to show on my car’s screen. This is dangerous in that I have to physically hold the phone, scroll thru the contact list, touch a name, then touch to dial. Kinda hard to do driving down the road.

    I bought the Razr new in February 2012. Car/phone synced just fine The ICS upgrade came through in June 2012. Car/phone sync no longer fully functional.
