Verizon Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean Update Approved

Published

on

Right on the heels of an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean appearance on the Samsung Galaxy S3 splash page on Verizon’s website comes more great news for owners as Verizon has approved the Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean update today which means that an announcement and roll out should come at some point in the near future.

Verizon Galaxy S3 owners have been waiting for Jelly Bean for quite awhile now and the wait became especially terrible after AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile all rolled out Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates for their variants of the Galaxy S3. Fortunately, Verizon is going to be following closely behind AT&T with its own Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S3 which has been approved as the documents are now live on Verizon’s website.

The Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean update has been approved by Verizon.

The support documents do not say exactly when the Verizon Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean update will roll out but we imagine that Verizon will fill owners in on that information in the days ahead. December 14th has been rumored as the release date for the Jelly Bean update and now that the update has been approved, it could be that the update starts rolling out in phases starting on that day.

The update has been a long time coming for the Verizon Galaxy S3 as Android 4.1 Jelly Bean has been out since July and Samsung started rolling out Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to its Galaxy S3 many weeks ago. Verizon users also had to watch as AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile rolled out Jelly Bean to their devices. U.S. Cellular’s Galaxy S3 remains without an upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The update had leaked out several times over the past few weeks which seemed to point to an imminent release. That is now a reality and the software should arrive to replace Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich soon.

Android 4.1 is a huge upgrade over Android 4.0 and brings a number of new features to the table including Google Now, a faster and smoother UI, expanded notifications, and a whole lot more. The update is also free which means Verizon Galaxy S3 owners are going to want to install it once it becomes available.

I installed Jelly Bean on my S3 (at&t) not too long ago. I reset the device to factory settings, and re-configured the OS from beginning only to find out that the TouchWiz UI refuses to allow the Android OS to function smoothly(as advertised), no matter how many times you wipe/reset device and start over. It slows the phone down to a point where I could not see a difference between Android 4.0 and 4.1.
But, don’t take my word for it, try it out for yourself.

Finally, I got fed up after waiting so long for 4.1 to improve the glitchy TouchWiz UI, I bought a Nexus 4 (arrived 2 days ago), and I’m putting my S3 up for sale. I cannot explain how FAST and fluid the Nexus 4 is. Words just cannot explain. I thought I could have that same speed and fluidity on the S3, but Samsung’s TouchWiz UI proved me wrong.

    Good Luck!

It’s not really touch wiz slowing it down and it is. Do you use the power saving mode on your phone? Mine lags very bad when I do but if I don’t battery doesn’t last long.

62mbs is the same size as the bug fix update back in October. So I wonder how true this statement is. I still have The Email They Sent me in October and Its Exact Word For Word. We will see.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Until then, it’s just another rumor.

Just got off the phone with Verizon, the update will be released the 14th or 15th. Exact quote, “it will be released in the next three days.”
