Users of the device tell Gotta Be Mobile that the Jelly Bean is now available through the Verizon Galaxy S3’s settings and it appears that some users have even been able to use the Google Framework Service’s trick that often gets the phone to show a prompt for the update when it doesn’t automatically. It’s unclear if the update is available to everyone but we know that a whole lot of Verizon Galaxy S3 owners have seen the update this morning.

The Verizon Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean update is now available.

Verizon said that the update would be rolling out in phases starting today but it appears that owners aren’t going to have to wait the usual couple of days before it rolls out to everyone. That’s a nice surprise for Verizon Galaxy S3 owners who were likely planning on waiting a few days for the software to arrive.

For those that may not be seeing the update, here is a trick to try in order to force the update.

1. Go to Settings -> Apps -> All

2. Find Google Services Framework.

3. Tap on Force Stop.

4. Select Clear Data.

5. Head back to the Verizon Galaxy S3’s Settings, go to About, and check for a System Update.

The update is a massive piece of firmware checking in at nearly 400MB in size so Verizon Galaxy S3 owners are going to want to set aside some time for the update to download, install and then reboot the device. Once that occurs, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the update that the Galaxy S3 has been running since the device arrived in July, will be replaced by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

That means that owners will now have access to Google Now, the faster UI, the improved widgets, the expanded Notifications, more Face Unlock options, and a whole lot more. It’s a stark improvement over Android 4.0 which means users will definitely want to take the plunge.

Horribly slow downloading. Like 1% per minute maybe? It was pulling it down over wi-fi which appears to be the problem. Once I shut off the wifi and started over, it’s running way faster over the 4G connection.

why do phone manufacturers and verizon FORCE me to upgrade operating systems? I originally had a droid razr. got it dec ’11. apr ’12 it upgraded from gingerbread to ics. RUINED THE PHONE! the signal went to crap, couldn’t make calls, no internet connection, random app freeze ups. none of this happened before the “upgrade” after 2 warranty razr replacements I finally got verizon to give me a different phone. that’s how I got my s3. absolutely love it. this morning I woke up to my phone “upgraded” again. why? I had no issues. loved the phone. I don’t like the new keyboard for texting, the led for notifications is different, and my draw something app has sound but no screen! can’t they make the upgrades optional? If you want it, go for it. if you don’t want it, leave it be! I liked my phone the way it was, dammit. quit screwing with something I shell out money to have. there’s no reason my phone won’t work on 4.0 it worked fine yesterday.
