Nokia Lumia 920 Update Fixes Camera and Battery Issues

Published

on

Today Nokia released an update to the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 for AT&T and Rogers subscribers that fixes a number of issues with the phone.

The update fixes some issues with the PureView camera in the Lumia 920. Specifically, it makes it so photos taken with the camera are less blurry than they were before the update. The update doesn’t change any other functionality of the PureView camera, however. The update also fixes issues with the camera in the Lumia 820.

The update also fixes some issues with battery management, which should mean that users will get longer battery life out of their smartphone after the update. Nokia’s release note don’t mention better battery life, but it seems likely.

Other changes in the update include enhancements to Messaging, “more efficient and reliable “Bluetooth and a “more efficient and reliable start-up sequence.” Nokia also lists “additional platform updates and enhancements” in its release notes, but doesn’t specify what those small changed might be.

This update is currently available for the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 on AT&T and Rogers. Unlocked and international versions of both phones will receive updates later. This is one of the few times where a carrier-branded version of a phone received an update before the unlocked version of the phone. Typically carriers take longer to issue updates to their branded phones due to testing.

Nokia will release the update to other versions of both phones in February 2013, two months after AT&T and Rogers users get the update.

Unlike Windows Phone 7, Windows Phone 8 doesn’t require a desktop PC or Mac to perform updates which means users can download this new update to their phone anytime they are on Wi-Fi. The update should get pushed to phones automatically, but users can check for the update manually by going to Settings -> Phone Update -> Check For Updates. That option should guide users through updating the phone.
