Auxo: The iOS 6 Jailbreak App Switcher Apple Should Buy for iOS 7

Published

on

The iOS App switcher remains mostly unchanged for the past several years, but a new iOS 6 jailbreak app called Auxo delivers a better iOS app switcher to jailbroken devices.

Auxo is a working version of the iOS app switcher concept we saw earlier this year in The Verge forums. The concept is now close to a reality, and is coming to Cydia for devices running an iOS 6 jailbreak. This means it only works on the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.

After watching the Auxo demo video below, courtesy of iDownloadBlog, iPhone 5 owners are certainly hoping for an iOS 6 jailbreak in the near future.

Auxo uses cards instead of the app icons when a user double taps on the home button. This allows users to see what’s happening in the app, but that’s not all it does. Instead of a long press and a tap to quit an app, Auxo supports gestures. Swiping down on an app will quit the app. Swiping down on two apps will quit tow apps. The launcher is smart enough to warn users if they are quitting an app that is playing music in the background.

Auxo is a iOS 6 jailbreak tweak the at re-imagines the app switcher.

Auxo also re-imagines the music controls. Swiping left to right brings up a new screen with access to playback controls and the ability to see album art full screen.

Another swipe brings up toggles, similar to the NCSettings jailbreak app. Here users can quickly toggle eight settings like Bluetooth, WiFi, Airplane mode and more.

Auxo is coming to Cydia soon, though no price is announced. iDownloadBlog says the developers are working on an iOS 5 compatible version, but at launch the tweak will only run on devices with an iOS 6 jailbreak. This means most iPhone 4S and all iPhone 5 owners are not able to use Auxo yet as there is no iOS 6 jailbreak for the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S.

If Apple is going to shake things up in iOS 7 next year, we hope it incorporates a new App Switcher like this, and the new notifications shown off by the same creator. Apple has a long history of adopting jailbreak tweaks into the stock version of iOS, and for hiring iOS hackers to come work for the company.

The iOS 6 jailbreak for the iPhone 5 is not available yet, but famed iOS hacker pod2g recently said he, “believes iOS 6 will be jailbroken.” in a lengthy interview about the iPhone 5, iOS 6 and jailbreaking. Check out the latest jailbreak news at Gotta Be Mobile.

Personally, I think we should stop producing JB tweaks for the iOS platform and see how long until Apple run out of ideas.
My iPhone 4S died and was replaced thus I am stuck on inferiorOS 6 for now :(

Awesome tweak. I agree, it’s definitely slick enough and intuitive enough to be adopted by Apple. Sadly, no iPad compatibility yet, but I’m hopeful that if this tweak takes off, that will come later (of course I don’t know that for sure – the devs would have to comment). Either way, props to the devs for an outstanding job.

Agreed! Great idea and very excited to see this on my iphone 5 although now im hearing the jailbreak mite not release till 6.1 but am also hearing that 6.1 will contain even more security measures against jailbreak attempts… We will see if the hard workers who are attempting to jailbreak the iphone 5 will succeed or not… Either way props to the jailbreaker out there

This app switcher looks amazing, but… It does exactly the same thing that android ice cream sandwich did in 2011 (scalated to a lower space)

I can’t wait for when Apple puts this in iOS and the humanoids will be blown away and say Apple is so creative and ignore it’s already in Android and has been for over a year.
