Galaxy Note Jelly Bean Confirmed, Brings Galaxy Note 2 Features

Published

on

Samsung confirmed the Galaxy Note Jelly Bean upgrade and Premium Suite features, including multi-window view, enhanced S-Pen use and more in an update on Samsung’s site this week.

The Galaxy Note premium suite upgrade is similar to the Galaxy S3 Android 4.1.2 update which we expect to see on U.S. carriers as early as January 2013. The update brings some of our favorite Galaxy Note 2 features to the original Galaxy Note as a free upgrade.

The Galaxy Note Android 4.1 update brings speed enhancements thanks to Project Butter and Google Now for fast access to search. The Premium suite update for the Samsung Galaxy Note was discovered by Engadget, when Samsung updated the Galaxy Note microsite.

The video below shows off Multi-Window view, a feature that allows users to place two apps side-by-side on the large display and use both at the same time.

In addition to the Multi-Window View, Samsung confirmed several other new Galaxy Note features that should help Note owners wait for the Galaxy Note 3 before upgrading.

  • Air View – Hover the S Pen oer the Note to see more of a message or to move around the screen.
  • Popup Note, Browser, Video – Launch a small pop up window on top of another app.
  • Photo Note – write on the back of a photo.
  • Photo Frame – add a note on the frame of a photo before sharing.
  • Easy Clip – Crop an image on screen to share quickly.
  • Paper Artist – Photo editing tools.
  • Handwriting on S Planner and Email – send handwritten notes by email or leave yourself a handwritten note.
  • Enhanced S Note – Sketch effect and other filters are added to S Note.
Galaxy Note Jelly Bean Update AT&T

Samsung confirms Galaxy Note Jelly Bean update.

There is no Galaxy Note Android 4.1 update release date information from Samsung. We could see the Jelly Bean update arrive on the Galaxy Note in early 2013. The update will likely arrive on the international unlocked models first, with the AT&T Galaxy Note Jelly Bean update arriving shortly after.

The Galaxy Note Jelly bean update is already slotted for a release on Canadian carrier Rogers in, “Early January”, and updates typically arrive on Rogers and AT&T near the same time.

There’s no mention of the new camera features that the Premium Suite is bringing to the Galaxy S3 in early 2013.

I just finished a live chat with AT&T and was asked if I had received a text message about the upgrade. When I said, “No”, the tech said to watch for a text message in the next week or two with instructions for downloading the update to a computer for transfer to the phone via USB. Evidently the roll-out is going in phases and some users have already received it.

It’s now March 9th and still no update in the US. I’m not concerned with the why or who’s of why this is taking so long. I am concerned that it is. At least the iPhone doesn’t screw around with it’s updates and it’s phones do what they are suppose to. If the 6 does have a 4.5 inch screen, I may well be going back. It’s as if Samsung just forgot about those of us who helped establish the market for the Note.
