With 2013 now in full swing, many eyes are fixated on the devices that are to come. Already rumored are flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S4, iPhone 6, HTC M7 and even details about the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 have leaked out already. However, despite all of those exciting leaks, there will certainly still be consumers looking for an Android device right now, and fortunately, for the month of January, there are some fantastic ones on the market.

2012 was chock full of fantastic smartphone releases and that has translated into a smartphone market that is full of options for consumers. Many of the devices that are currently on the market should hold their own well into 2013 making them ideal candidates for those looking for a smartphone right this minute that will hold out for the duration of a contract. And while we are tempted to recommend waiting until at least the end of February for Mobile World Congress 2013 to come around, and event that usually proves very fruitful when it comes to devices, we understand that not everyone can wait and not everyone wants to wait.

So, here, we want to take a look at the devices we consider the best of the best when it comes to Android powered hardware. Because the month of December was unusually quiet as far as Android releases were concerned, it remains virtually unchanged from last month’s list. That being said, the five devices listed here are the devices that we believed to be the absolute best available and they are phones that consumers will certainly want to have atop their shopping list for the month of January.

Here are the 5 best Android smartphones for January, 2013.

Nexus 4

While the unlocked version of the Nexus 4 remains impossible to buy on the Google Play Store, it still remains one of the best Android smartphones in existence.

With its fantastic unlocked price tag, high end features, and vanilla Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system, the Nexus 4 is a phone that just about everyone looking for a new Android smartphone needs to be looking at.

No, it doesn't have 4G LTE data speeds, but those who can live without them will have, in their possession, a top notch Android device.
