iHome Disney Creativity Studio for iPad with Smart Stylus Demo

Published

At the Consumer Electronics Show, iHome brought out a learn to draw tool for children in the form of the Disney Creativity Studio for the Apple iPad tablet. The solution consists of two components–a smart stylus hardware that wirelessly connects to the slate, as well as an accompanying app. The stylus itself costs $50 and can be purchased via the Apple Store and the app costs $3 via the iTunes App Store.

The app can teach your children to draw and comes with audio instructions. Children can connect dots to form their Disney drawings or trace over the visual cues that are displayed on the iPad’s screen with the smart stylus accessory.

Unlike other wireless connected stylus accessories that we’ve seen at trade shows in the past that requires accessory dongles to be connected to the tablet, the Smart Stylus introduced by iHome doesn’t require any additional hardware. It also features gesture actions to allow you to quickly change settings without having to tap the screen. However, unlike an active digitizer–like the kind found on Samsung’s Galaxy Note series of phablets and tablets–the Smart Stylus acts and looks like a capacitive touchscreen stylus and not like an active digitizer. To the end user, this means that you won’t have the fine tuned controls of something like a Wacom digitizer. As such, the Smart Stylus is more of a children’s learning toy than an artist tool.

Good post. It seems like such an interesting way to teach kids how to draw. Thanks for the post.
