Sprint Windows Phone 8 Coming Soon

WIndows Phone 8 devices, which are currently available on three of the four major U.S. carriers, will soon be heading to the nation’s third largest carrier as Sprint confirmed that Windows Phone 8 devices will be coming soon.

In a post on its Windows Phone 8 support page, first discovered by The Verge, Sprint says that Windows Phone 8 will finally be coming soon. The carrier did not specify exactly when devices would be coming though given the language, it would appear that the Now Network is finally poised to start offering Windows Phone powered handsets.

Previously, Sprint had said that it would be launching Windows Phone 8 smartphones at some point in 2013, though at the time, the carrier declined to provide any kind of timing for the launch.

With CES 2013 underway in Las Vegas, it could be that Sprint uses the event to introduce its Windows Phone 8 device or devices to the U.S. It also could use Mobile World Congress 2013 in February to make the announcement, though, considering that event is in Europe, that seems rather unlikely.

When it does finally release a Windows Phone 8 smartphone, Sprint will become the last of the United States’ four largest carriers to release a Windows Phone 8 device. Presumably, the device or devices will run on Sprint’s 4G LTE network which will mark the first time that a Windows Phone smartphone has run on Sprint’s high-speed network.

So far, Sprint has only released one Windows Phone smartphone, the HTC Arrive, which arrived on its 3G network back in 2011. The carrier originally said that it would be “bullish” on offering a Windows Phone 8 device though it decided that it would release one back in November of last year.

It’s unclear if Sprint will release a current Windows Phone 8 device, the HTC Windows Phone 8X is a prime candidate considering it’s home on several different carriers already, or if it will release a new device entirely.
