Samsung’s Galaxy S4 is currently rumored to potentially be launching at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona at the end of February. Just yesterday, we were told by an accessory maker that it is expecting the Galaxy S4 to arrive in the first quarter of this year. That means that so far, all signs are pointing to a launch at some point in the beginning part of the year.

The Galaxy S4 is heavily rumored to be coming at MWC 2013.

Another potential clue has emerged today in the form of a listing at the Samsung Global Download Center, found by Blog of Mobile. The listing shows a device called the GT-9500X. This is relevant as the GT-9500 is rumored to be the model number for the Galaxy S4. Samsung has released similar model numbers for its previous versions of the Galaxy S.

The Galaxy S that launched in 2010 had the model number, GT-i9000. The Galaxy S2, which emerged at Mobile World Congress in 2011 possessed a model number GT-i9100. And last year’s Samsung Galaxy S3 had a model number of GT-i9300. That lineage doesn’t confirm the Galaxy S4 model number to be the GT-9500, but it certainly makes it plausible.

The GT-I9500X could be the Galaxy S4.

Regardless of whether or not its the Galaxy S4 or not, the Galaxy S4 is clearly inching closer to launch as the device is reportedly being shopped to carriers at CES 2013 ahead of its expected arrival sometime in the first half of 2013.

The device will likely replace the Galaxy S3, announced and released in May of last year, and it’s rumored to be arriving with a 5-inch 1080p display, 13MP camera, and Android Jelly Bean or Android Key Lime Pie.

As someone who was burned by Verizon and HTC with the Thunderbolt, I’m not falling for “its expected arrival sometime in the first half of 2013.” I’ll have to go with the Droid Maxx HD or the iPhone 5.
