Galaxy Note 10.1, Galaxy Tab 2 Jelly Bean Update Arrives in U.S.

Today Samsung release the update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for the Galaxy Note 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 2, with the Note 10.1 getting a number of additional new features.

The update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean brings a number of improvements to Google’s OS including Google Now, and enhanced notifications. The update also brings Project Butter, which helps Android run more smoothly than previous versions. Other Jelly Bean improvements include offline dictation and resizable widgets, although Samsung widgets are already resizable on both tablets.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 also gets Samsung’s “Premium Suite” with the Jelly Bean upgrade, which adds a number of new features. The new improvements include features similar to those in the Galaxy Note 2.

With the Jelly Bean update, the Galaxy Note 10.1 can now resize windows of apps when running more than one at once. The feature also lets users overlap windows for a more desktop-like experience. Previously running two apps at once meant splitting the screen evenly between the two.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 also has some new S Pen features from the Galaxy Note 2, such as Air View, which lets users view preview content by hovering the S Pen over it. For example, Air View can show a preview of scenes in a video while scrubbing, or show an email without opening it.Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1

The S Pen also gains Quick Command to easily open apps, enhanced handwriting, an improved S Note app, Easy Clip (an easy way to copy/paste content), Photo Note to add notes to the “back” of images, a new Paper Artist app and the ability to switch between handwriting and color modes easily.

While Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is a big update for both devices, users of both the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 2 still have to wait for the latest version of Android. The most recent version of Android is Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, which Google introduced with the Nexus 4. There’s no word on when that update will come to Samsung’s tablets.
