High-End Nokia Lumia Launch on Verizon is Imminent?

Published

According to The Verge‘s Tom Warren on social networking site Twitter, the launch of the much rumored high-end Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 smartphone on Verizon’s 4G LTE network may be happening soon. Warren tweets, “If you’re on Verizon and want a high-end Nokia Lumia. You’re gonna be happy soon.”

Warren did not disclose what the specs of the phone would be nor did he elaborate if Verizon’s model will be a retooled Nokia Lumia 920, a device that’s currently offered on rival carrier AT&T in the U.S., that would have radios compatible with Verizon’s network, or if it will be an entirely different and new Nokia Lumia model.

In the past, Nokia has been rumored to be working on a slimmer version of the Lumia 920, which some have complained to be a bit too heavy and chunky for their liking.

And according to WMPUa potential unveil date for Verizon’s model may come at the Mobile World Congress show in February. Thus far, Verizon is supporting the flagship Windows Phone 8X by HTC, the mid-range Nokia Lumia 822, and also the recently announced but unreleased Samsung ATIV Odyssey smartphone. A high-end Lumia model would give Verizon a fourth Windows Phone 8 model on its network and may make the carrier the largest Windows Phone portfolio of any U.S. carrier. The next closest competition would be AT&T, with the Lumia 920, Lumia 820, and the Windows Phone 8X.

A possible reason for the late launch of a high-end or flagship Windows Phone 8 Lumia on Verizon’s network may be due to AT&T’s exclusivity period with Nokia. As an early U.S. carrier backer with the Lumia 900 last year, AT&T perhaps has some arrangement with Nokia for the Lumia 920.

A high-end Lumia model on Verizon would likely continue to differentiate itself from rival offerings with Nokia’s famed camera technology. Nokia is branding its camera technology with the PureView brand. On the Lumia 920, Nokia focused on steady video and low light photography with optical image stabilization.

Any idea of when this phone would be available…if it is unveiled next month?
