Galaxy Note & Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean Updates Hitting Canada in February?

Published

Last night, the Samsung Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean update roll out began leaving owners of carrier-attached Galaxy S2 devices wondering when they might see their Android 4.1 update arrive. The good news is that it appears that at least one carrier, Rogers in Canada, believes that it will be getting both its Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note Jelly Bean updates out to owners in February. The bad news is that Rogers is just one carrier and it doesn’t give any specific dates.

Back in the middle of December, Rogers updated their Jelly Bean update schedule to reflect current timing for some of the more popular devices out on the market. The list included the HTC One X Jelly Bean update, Galaxy Note Jelly Bean update and Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean update just to name a few. Rogers listed the HTC One X as getting the update in early January, the Galaxy Note in early January and the Galaxy S2 in early January.

Rogers says that it will be rolling out its Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note Jelly Bean updates in February.

Rogers followed through on its January Jelly Bean promise to HTC One X owners. However, it looks like the carrier has now delayed the timing for both the Galaxy Note and Galaxy Note 2 Jelly Bean updates.

The carrier’s current update roll out schedule now shows the Galaxy S2 as getting its Jelly Bean update in late February and the Galaxy Note also getting its update in the latter part of next month. No specific dates are mentioned and the carrier is quick to point out that these update windows are subject to change.

However, given that the Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean roll out began in Spain last night, it could be that Rogers is telling the truth, at least with the Galaxy S2 update. The Galaxy Note Jelly Bean situation remains a bit murky, as we have pointed out, and thus far, the update has yet to roll out to even the international version of the device. With the Galaxy Note in particular, there have been huge gaps between the international and unlocked devices and carrier-attached models in terms of update wait times.

That being said, it could be that Rogers misses its target for the Galaxy Note Jelly Bean update for a second time.

In December, we drew a correlation between Rogers updates and AT&T updates. Rogers is essentially the AT&T of Canada and they have often rolled out updates at similar times. However, the HTC One X Jelly Bean update broke that streak as AT&T has yet to roll out Jelly Bean for its One X model. Had AT&T rolled it out at a similar time, we would have suspected both the AT&T Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note updates for February as well, but at this point, their update situations are far less clear.

Rogers of course is just one carrier and it could be that other carriers beat it to the punch. But
