The HTC M7, HTC’s oft-rumored Android flagship, was thought to be coming to the market with the HTC M7 name. However, a new rumor has thrown a potential wrench in that rumor as it now looks as though the HTC M7 could come to the market known as the HTC One.

Until today, the HTC M7 was thought to be coming to shelves as the HTC M7. We saw HTC CEO Peter Chou scream out the name on stage amongst chanting HTC employees, and we hadn’t see any other names crop up as potential possibilities. That is, until today, when a notorious leakster shook things up just ahead of HTC’s presumed February 19th launch.

The HTC M7 could hit shelves as the HTC One.

According to evleaks, who has been accurate in the past, the HTC M7 will actually be called the HTC One when it hits shelves. This seems to be a play off of the company’s HTC One Series which arrived last year and was comprised of the HTC One X, HTC One S and the HTC One V. However, it looks like this phone will drop the additional branding and simply be called the HTC One.

By no means is this any sort of a confirmation, we’ve yet to see any evidence leak out other than evleaks’ word, but all along the HTC M7 seemed like a code name and so it’s not surprising to hear that HTC might be launching it under a different name.

For what it’s worth, we also heard the company chanting ‘HTC One’ at the company event as well.

The HTC One or HTC M7 is one of the most heavily rumored smartphones of 2013 with HTC expected to finally take the final curtain down around it on February 19th. The company will be hosting two launch events that day, one in New York City and one in London and the star of the show is expected to be the HTC One/M7.

The device itself is sounding like a beast of a smartphone with rumors suggesting Android Jelly Bean – possibly Android 4.2, a 4.7-inch 1080p display, quad-core processor, 4.3 Ultrapixel camera, 4G LTE data speeds and a Droid DNA style design.

It’s rumored to be coming to AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile at the start with Verizon potentially launching its own version later in the year.
