The 5 Best T-Mobile Smartphones [February, 2013]

Published

After a quiet end to 2012 and start of 2013 for most U.S. carriers, things are starting to heat up as several high-end devices looked poised to launch. However, as we’ve said before, not everyone can wait for the HTC M7 or the Samsung Galaxy S4 or the iPhone 5S. Some consumers need a smartphone right now, and in particular, a smartphone on T-Mobile.

Last year was a bit of an odd year for T-Mobile. The carrier watched as Sprint launched its 4G LTE network, leaving it as the only one of the big four without 4G LTE. It missed out on the iPhone 5 at launch but continued to promote its network as a destination for iPhone users. And launched the Galaxy Note only to launch the Galaxy Note 2 a few weeks later.

Things are looking up though as the carrier appears poised to join the rank and file of 4G LTE with Las Vegas and Kansas City set to become two of its first LTE locales. The carrier has finally confirmed the iPhone for launch later this year. And it will be shifting to an enticing no-subsidy data plan policy later on this year.

It should also be a part of several major launches including those of the HTC M7 and Galaxy S4, and quite possibly the iPhone 5S as well. And while that’s fantastic, those looking to get a high quality smartphone on T-Mobile don’t have to wait. In fact, the carrier is already equipped with several high-end smartphones, at least one of which is already equipped for the carrier’s 4G LTE network.

While we suggest holding out for some of these devices, the Galaxy S4 in particular, we realize that not everyone can do that. Whether its money, timing or a patience thing, some consumers need to get a smartphone now rather than later.

Fortunately, T-Mobile has quite a bit to offer consumers and for those looking, here now are the devices that we consider to be the five best smartphones on T-Mobile for the month of February, 2013.

Nexus 4

The Nexus 4 is one of the best options for those looking to snag a smartphone on T-Mobile combining high-end hardware, with vanilla Android, and a cheap price unlocked through Google. It's also available directly through T-Mobile on-contract.

The carrier-locked Nexus 4 and the unlocked model both run on T-Mobile's HSPA+ 42 network though there is no word on whether or not it will get unlocked for use with LTE.

Those that can live without LTE though will want to give the device a long long, especially now that its supply issues have dissipated.
