Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2.2 Update Rolls Out to More Users
Yesterday, Google started to roll out the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update to the Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and the GSM Galaxy Nexus. Only, some owners of the GSM Galaxy Nexus hadn’t seen the update arrive, specifically, the model not sold out of the Google Play Store. Today though, the update is reportedly rolling out to owners of the ‘yakju’ Galaxy Nexus.
After quite a bit of a wait, Google finally rolled out the Android 4.2.2 update to owners of its Nexus tablets as well as those who own the GSM version of the Galaxy Nexus smartphone. The update contains several bug fixes for Nexus owners along with several enhancements including a change to Quick Settings wherein users can long press on the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi buttons to toggle their settings.
All in all, it’s a quality update and one that is currently in the midst of rolling out to owners of those three devices. Nexus 4 owners unfortunately will have to wait it seems.
Of course, there are different variants of these devices, particularly with the Galaxy Nexus. Yesterday, we saw the update roll out to the GSM Galaxy Nexus but it was only to the “takju” model, the device that is sold in the Google Play Store. Typically, it gets its update long before the GSM Galaxy Nexus that is sold outside of the Google Play Store, dubbed “yakju”.
Fortunately for yakju Galaxy Nexus owners, the update is now rolling out, this according to Android Central. The OTA update, like the updates for the Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and the GSM Galaxy Nexus, will be rolling out slowly to owners over the next few days.
Those that don’t wish to wait for the update can flash or sideload the update by performing a manual install with the yakju Galaxy Nexus’ Android 4.2.2 file found on Google’s servers. We advise those that don’t know how to use the file to wait for the OTA update arrive as installing the update manually could lead to issues.
Other variants of the Galaxy Nexus still remain without Android 4.2.2 as the Sprint Galaxy Nexus remains on Android 4.2.1 while the Verizon Galaxy Nexus toils on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
