The Sony Xperia Z will touch down in Germany ahead of its anticipated February 28th release in Europe.

Sony confirmed the news today through its Sony Mobile Facebook page, saying that the device will be available early on February 21st at its store in Berlin, Germany. Thus far, that’s the only store that is known to be stocking the Xperia Z early and it could be that it will be the only place to snag it prior to its arrival later on in the month.

It could be that Sony adds other markets for February 21th but if that’s the case, the markets have not been officially revealed.

Those with the ability to make it to the store that day will wind up with one of Sony’s best smartphone efforts in quite sometime. The Sony Xperia Z, which launched at CES 2013, is a 5-inch Xperia smartphone with a sleek water and dust resistant design, 1080p display, quad-core processor and 13MP camera that seems capable of shooting gorgeous pictures.

The device also comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, with an upgrade to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean promised soon after launch, and a UI that not only looks better than Sony’s previous user interfaces, but is minimal as well. In fact, the software is so minimal that Sony neglected to give it a name.

And while the device appears set to arrive in Europe in just a few days, those in the U.S. looking for the Xperia Z are out of luck at the moment. No U.S. carrier has announced support for the Xperia Z and it could end up being a device that is available to U.S. customers in unlocked form only.
