HTC One (aka HTC M7) Caught in Wild Ahead of Launch (Update)

Published

on

This morning HTC will announce a new smartphone likely named the HTC One. The HTC one is the retail name for the long rumored HTC M7 smartphone which we’ve been reporting on since late 2012.

We are on our way to the HTC One launch event in New York and it appears that a HTC employee is casually using an HTC One near the venue.

Update 2: HTC One Launched with Video

Update: Added a new photo of the HTC One from inside the event and a leaked HTC One hands on.

Engadget caught a quick shot of the HTC One in the hands of an unidentified male while waiting in line for the press event to start.

HTC One in Public

Engadget catches the HTC One in public.

The HTC One previously made appearances in the hands of HTC CEO Peter Chou at a HTC year-end party at the beginning of February.

In a collection of photos we can see the HTC One, which is likely a pre-production unit, but that bears a resemblance to the curved back we’ve see on previous HTC One leaks.

HTC One in the Wild

HTC one caught ahead of the announcement.

The HTC One event starts in under an hour where we will get a full look at the device and possibly an HTC tablet running Ubuntu. Rumors point to a HTC One release date in March, with a stateside release taking place on March 22nd. Reports indicate that the HTC One will land on AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint at launch. The HTC One may skip Verizon for the time being, as the carrier currently offers the HTC Droid DNA.

It’s appropriate that the photo above shows someone taking photos with the HTC One as the camera is expected to be the star of the show. Rumors point to a very good camera, which could deliver a new way of taking smartphone photos, with better dynamic range and color depth than traditional smartphones.

The HTC One hands on Video below appears to have leaked to YouTube early.

When HTC takes the stage shortly will be there to share more about the HTC One.

That second device is not an HTC One, it is a white HTC EVO LTE: https://shop.sprint.com/catalog/images/devices/htc/htc_evo_4g_lte/white/gal_463x407_1.jpg

Notice the 3 button configuration and the presence of the task-switching capacitive key to the far right. Also the device in the photo is missing the HTC One’s stereo grill at the bottom, and the prominent dark sensor region towards the top of the phone is a dead giveaway.
