Samsung Galaxy S4 May Use Snapdragon 600 Processor Josh Smith02/20/2013 The Samsung Galaxy S4 may use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor instead of Samsung’s own Exynos Octa 5 processor which Samsung has been teasing in social media. Samsung announced the Exynos Octa 5 processor at CES 2013, and while the company did not confirm plans to use it in their Galaxy S4 smartphone, rumors suggested the company would use the flagship mobile processor in their flagship phone.Advertisement The good news for consumers is that no matter which processor Samsung goes with benchmarks suggest the Galaxy S4 will pack plenty of power with better graphics performance and up to 40% better performance than the U.S. Galaxy S3. While Qualcomm doesn’t dive into the details, the company claims the new processors offer, “great battery life.” A new report from a Korean publication claims the Samsung Galaxy S4 will use the Snapdragon 600 processor in all versions of the Galaxy S4, as spotted by PhoneArena. Could the Galaxy S4 skip the Exynos Octa 5?Advertisement This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a Samsung Galaxy S4 with a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Last week a benchmark tagged as the Samsung SCH-I545 appeared showing a 1.9Ghz Qualcomm processor. This device uses a similar model to the Samsung Galaxy S3 on Verizon, which may mean this is the Verizon Galaxy S4 model.Advertisement Another set of possible Galaxy S4 benchmarks also show the new device running on a Qualcomm processor clocked at 1.9Ghz. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor is already in the LG Optimus G Pro and in the just announced HTC One. Samsung outfitted the Samsung Galaxy S3 with a Qualcomm processor in the U.S. to support 4G LTE. It’s possible that Samsung will launch the Galaxy S4 with the Snapdragon 600 in the U.S. and other areas while using the Exynos Octa 5 processor in the international version. The Samsung Galaxy S4 launch will reportedly take place on March 14th in New York City, with a release following in April. Sources point to a U.S. Galaxy S4 release in May or June.Advertisement Whether the Galaxy S4 uses an Exynos Octa 5 processor or a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600, it will likely use a quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM. The phone is expected to arrive with a 13MP camera which will likely be paired with software similar to that found on the Galaxy Note 2. Rumors say the Galaxy S4 will feature Android 4.2.2 with Samsung’s Nature UX overlay and features.
