Samsung Wants Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2 to Be Your Next Work Phone

Samsung’s new security suite for the Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2 and likely the upcoming Galaxy S4 offers users a quick way to switch between their business and personal lives without switching phones.

Samsung announced SAFE with Knox at Mobile World Congress this week, a new feature aimed at satisfying the needs of companies and their users.

Rather than forcing users to carry a work phone and a personal phone, or to keep their work and personal life separate through home screens, accounts and apps Samsung’s solutions lets users jump between work and personal with the push of a button.

While using SAFE with Knox, users can tap a work icon to enter a secure password that flips them into a work environment that looks slightly different from the average Samsung Galaxy S3 interface. After entering a secure password users have access to important work information and to a Knox specific app store curated by their employer.

Engadget provides a hands on look at Samsung SAFE with Knox, which illustrates how easy it is to switch between work and personal use.

While in Knox users will experience higher security thanks to a mouthful of security acronyms including Security Enhanced (SE) Android, secure booting, Single Sign On (SSO) and TrustZone based Integrity Monitoring (TIMA). In short, the Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2 and future Galaxy smartphones offer some of the most requested security tools, which will allow companies to equip users with a secure smartphone that they might actually want to use.

Samsung is focusing on the security features of the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 in  the company’s latest ads as it attempts to steal marketshare in the enterprise from BlackBerry and the iPhone. With a solution like this, users could bring their own phone or use an employer-provided Galaxy S3 to switch between work and personal.

To kick off the push, Samsung debuted a new ad during the OSCARS, with Tim Burton making an appearance in the latest ad.

While the Zombie Unicorn ads dance around the security features, shorter ads in rotation do drive home the fact that the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 deliver features consumers want and businesses need.

Samsung SAFE with Knox will come to devices in 65 countries later this year as an over the air software update. The update should roll out in Q2, though no specific launch countries are announced. Given the timing, SAFE with Knox may launch on the Galaxy S4 which could arrive in April.

It will not be long before an increasing number of major organisations require employees to have Samsung devices, and the Note 2 and Note 8 have customised apps in different areas and functions of the business.
