Samsung Galaxy S4 Hands On Experience May Come to Times Square
The Samsung Galaxy S4 will arrive in Times Square in New York City on March 14th at 7 PM according to a teaser image posted to Samsung Mobile’s twitter account this morning.
The teaser image features a ‘4’ adding to the fever pitch for the Galaxy S4 and includes an interesting piece of information which leads us to believe Samsung is planning to let fans and shoppers get a Galaxy S4 hands on in Times Square shortly after the Galaxy S4 launch event which takes place in Radio City Music Hall.
The teaser invites users to watch the Galaxy S4 live stream and to “experience Samsung’s new flagship smartphone at Times Square.” We don’t think Samsung wants the world to trek to Times Square to watch the event, but rather to experience the Galaxy S4 by going hands on with the new smartphone shortly after it is official.
We’ve already heard that U.S. carriers wanted a Samsung Galaxy S4 launch in the U.S. to increase demand for the Galaxy S4, and it looks like Samsung may take things a step further with a pop up store in Times Square where excited users can experience the Galaxy S4 in person.
Samsung previously maintained a retail location in the Time Warner Center in New York. The Samsung Experience was a 10,000 square foot store that allowed users to experience Samsung’s latest and greatest technology, though the store didn’t actually sell items. The Samsung Experience closed at the end of 2011.
It’s possible that Samsung is planning a pop-up store to launch the Galaxy S4 in the U.S. If such a store is coming to Times Square right after the announcement it could indeed signal a faster U.S. Galaxy S4 release date.
One likely location for a Samsung Galaxy S4 pop up experience would be in the retail outlet which Microsoft left at the end of January. The former Microsoft Store was empty five days after it closed and looks ready to accept a new retailer.
We don’t expect Samsung will start selling the Galaxy S4 right after the launch event, and shoppers may not be able to buy the Galaxy S4 at this store at any time, but it would offer Samsung a chance to show off the Galaxy S4 in a retail environment similar to Apple Stores. This allows Samsung to maintain greater control over the device and answer consumer questions, even if it is only in one location.
Google dismissed rumors of retail stores, claiming they are not necessary, but with worries that Samsung will run away with Android, Google may be watching Times Square closely on March 14th.
We’ve reached out to Samsung to find out if readers will be able to get a Galaxy S4 hands on in Times Square on March 14th. We did not hear back at the time of publication.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 rumors point to a 4.99-inch 1080P Full HD display with a quad core processor inside. The U.S. Galaxy S4 may feature the Snapdragon 600 processor while the European version could use the Samsung Exynos Octa 5. We expect a vastly improved camera, possibly 13MP like the Sony Xperia Z. The design of the Galaxy S4 remains a mystery, though one claimed Galaxy S4 photo shows slightly less curved corners and the poster claims the device will feature aluminum sides.
