How to Use iTunes Without a Credit Card

Some users they may not want to link their card to the Apple ID so that they avoid being tempted by the massive amounts of content available to buy instantly to help control spending. With songs and apps at about a dollar apiece it is easy for these purchases to rack up without you noticing.

For parents who allow their kids to use their iPod, or other device, they may not want them to have the ability to purchase apps or music without their knowledge. Or they might end up with a $2,500 iTunes bill like these parents did. By adding gift cards to an iTunes account it can easily setup so that a credit card is not needed for purchases.

Unfortunately it may not be possible to take an old Apple ID and use it without a credit card if one has already been added. Follow the steps below to create an Apple ID without a credit card. This guide will demonstrate the process for those who are using the most current version of iTunes 11.

On your computer, open iTunes.

When iTunes opens, tap iTunes Store in the top right.

After the store loads tap App Store in the center of the top bar.

Scroll down and find Top Free Apps and select one.

On the next screen, tap Create Apple ID.

Tap Continue.

Check the I have read and agree to these terms and conditions box, and select Agree.

Enter the information on the form of the next page. Once it is all entered, tap Continue. 

For payment choose None. There is no need to enter a billing address, just select Create Apple ID.

Check the email address you entered for a confirmation email, like below. Click on the Verify Now link.

iTunes will pop up with this message and you have successfully setup your iTunes Apple ID without a credit card.

If you ever decide to add a credit card to this account it will not be able to go back to not having one.
