iPhone 6 Concept Brings 4.8-inch, No Home Button Prototype to Life

Published

on

A new iPhone 6 concept shows a beautifully rendered iPhone 6 with a 4.8-inch display, no home button and an iPad mini inspired design.

The iPhone 6 concept shows us what an iPhone 6 prototype tumored back in December might look like. According to Jeffries analyst Peter Misek, Apple is working on a large screen iPhone 6 with no home button and a quad-core processor.

Steve Hemmerstoffer of nowhereelse.fr teamed up with talented designer Martin Hajek to design the iPhone 6, and a larger iPhone 6 that could take on phablets and smartphones with increasingly large screens.

This iPhone 6 concept isn’t quite as large as the Galaxy Note 2, but would compete nicely with the rumored 4.99-inch display on the Samsung Galaxy S4, the 4.8-inch display on the HTC One and the 5-inch display on the Sony Xperia Z.

In a photo heavy post, Hemmerstoffer shares two new iPhone 6 concepts which show another look at how Apple could deliver a large screen smartphone without dramatically increasing the size of the iPhone. The idea is simple, and their solution to controlling an iPhone with no home button is also simple; incorporate the trackpad design from the Macbook to deliver a clickable touch screen.

The solution certainly looks more elegant than the side-mounted home button we saw on an iPhone 6 concept with a massive display earlier this month. By removing the home button, the iPhone 6 is actually smaller than the iPhone 5, and the iPhone 6 with a 4.8-inch display is nearly the same size as the iPhone 5.

The iPhone 6 with a 4.8-inch screen is slightly larger than the iPhone 5.

This design would solve many of the complaints of large smartphones, allowing Apple to offer an iPhone with a bigger screen, without burdening users with a phone that is too large to carry or too large to hold, at least in the eyes of users accustomed to 3.5-inch and 4-inch screens.

The idea to replace the home button with a click pad is interesting, especially with the idea that users can use it higher up on the screen. This would offer a larger touch target, but could prove troublesome for gamers who mash down on a games’ on-screen buttons.

The idea of a screen with an integrated clickpad is not new. The BlackBerry Storm and Storm 2 used a clickable screen, which was widely panned by reviewers and users.

In this iPhone 6 concept we see an overall look like the iPad mini and the new iPod touch. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 with a 4.8-inch display feature anodized aluminum backs with 4-inch and 4.8-inch clickable displays.

We expect the iPhone 5S release before the iPhone 6 arrives, and current rumors point to an iPhone 5S release in June or late summer, though nothing is set in stone.

Other rumors suggest Apple is planning an iPhone 5S and an iPhone 6, both set for a release in 2013. This wouldn’t be the first time Apple announced two iPhones in one year (Verizon iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S), but it would mark the first time the company announced 2 completely new iPhone models in one year.

Be sure to check out the rest of the iPhone 6 concept renderings.

It’s a concept…meaning it could be done if designed that way. Unless you don’t understand what “concept” means, then let forget about further discussion until you do.

It would be a design mistake if the coming iPhone didn’t at least widen by few mm.

    • Funny

      03/06/2013 at 2:30 pm

What the point of widening a few mm if you can have 4.6″ screen in current estate? Sometimes, people just love something bigger but forget what’s it used for.

    @Larry

Its a CONCEPT design, it does not claim to be real, and no one reading it would believe it was real. So your comments are laughably ironic

Comparing android fans talking about the galaxy s4 and apple fans with the iPhone 6, the android fans are more tech savvy apple fans seem slightly retarded.

I respect your comment, but I think Apple users are always faithful. By this I mean that, in my case, after testing an iPhone or iPad and you can not have another phone because it a small thing .. there must be .. No?

They really need to create a larger size screen phone with a 13meg camera and better sound. Once they finally create a phone with those upgrades they will have another winning phone… Why are people going to Android??? Bigger screens…. Come on Apple, open your ears.. Hope the iphone 6 solves this issue..

Why a clickable part on the bottom?? Why not use a slide up from the bottom (like the slide down from the top for notifications) to access a home button and or other options?

I hate to tell you guys, but apple made it clear that they won’t make the phone any bigger. They don’t want to loose the one handed ease-of-use

    • 778insomnia (@778insomnia)

      03/19/2013 at 9:27 pm

I heard the same thing….but they can’t play on the same form factor forever. If they keep with their historical tradition, they should (in theory) maintain the 4 inch screen for another or 5 hardware updates. Jumping so soon to a .8 inch increase is certainly unprecedented and will infuriate current iPhone 5 owners. Apple would never do that….oh wait a minute, they already did that with the iPad 4 replacing the iPad 3.

    • dane

      04/20/2013 at 9:53 pm

Then they will lose a crap load more customers. Their stocks are already going down hill and investors are giving them a lot of pressure. They ran out of touch a long time ago and competitors are bringing out so much more these days. If Apple wasn’t so corky and sue any ccompanies. If they launch the iPhone 5S this year with minor specs upgrade they will lose much much more customers and fans. Sick and tired of their iOS

What is Rene Ritchie’s take on all this? 4.8 inches is slightly larger than the current 4.0 inch iPhone 5? Hmm. Did you not say that the iPhone 5 was larger than the iPhone 4S (an increase of 0.5 inches).

I can tell you it is an amazing phone! I saw a commercial on it yesterday. It will have a keyboard that projects on a flat surface and your “screen” will project on a wall! AMAZING!

Iphone 5 has a nice design… I think its better to have the 4 inch display than an 5 inch display because its quite big and doesnt fit in one hand… I mean iphone 5 was a big development for iphones, and i rather get an iphone 5 than this… And i agree with brian gentges… Iphone 6 cant be a 5 inch phone… Lol. But i like the next iphone when it has dashboard or the ios 7 app killer.

There seems to be so much ire over a phone. Is it really worth getting mad about? It’s a phone, you make calls from it, it takes pictures, you play games and music on it. My God have we digrest so deeply as a human populous that we have nothing better to do than to fight and degrade each other over a electronic device? Like what you think best fits your life style and don’t worry about what someone else uses. I highly dought that everyone of your friends uses the same phone as you, yet you are still friends. Just stop with all the negative rhetoric .
