Verizon Galaxy S3 Android 4.1.2 Update Rolls Out without Premium Suite

Published

on

The Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 is now receiving its Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update though as expected, it looks like the device is arriving with enhancements and bug fixes rather than Samsung’s Premium Suite of software which has rolled out to other models of the Galaxy S3 in the past.

We have received word from several Galaxy S3 owners on Verizon who say that the Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.1.2 update, which was approved yesterday by Verizon, is now rolling out to owners. The update, which is 150MB in size, is available through the device’s Settings, in the About section, as it is rolling out Over-the-Air.

The Verizon Galaxy S3 Android 4.1.2 brings a number of enhancements and bug fixes with it though unfortunately, it looks like Verizon Galaxy S3 owners are still without the Samsung Premium Suite that promises a number of software changes, including the Galaxy Note 2’s Multi-Window View functionality.

Instead, there are a number of fixes, as noted by the changelog, and they include:

  • Keyboard Predictive Text feature has been improved
  • User can take pictures while on a call
  • Manual refresh button has been added to lock screen stock ticker
  • Email syncing has been improved
  • Bluetooth® performance has been improved
  • VZ Navigator and Amazon have been added to stub applications

What this means is that Verizon Galaxy S3 owners are going to have to wait for the Premium Suite to arrive, if it arrives at all. Though we have seen other Galaxy S3 devices updated with the Premium Suite of features with their Android 4.1.2 updates, we still haven’t seen a U.S. model get them.

Sprint recently rolled out its Android 4.1.2 update to its Galaxy S3 and it did not contain the Premium Suite either. AT&T, T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular have not yet rolled out their updates but they could take a similar approach.

This means that the features may not arrive until Android 4.2 Jelly Bean arrives or, maybe, not at all. U.S. carriers never confirmed the software and it could be that they never roll it out.

Sucks that with as many phones that roll out annually in the United States there wouldn’t be a better system in getting updates out to the consumer. For being a developed nation and a superpower at that we seem to be a third world nation when it comes to staying ahead of the game on technology and especially timely updates to the consumer.

Don’t blame Samsung, blame Verizon. Every time a new update becomes available, they go looking for ways to

      1) lockdown the phones (only locked bootloader S3s in the world)
      2) destroy root wherever possible
      3) sell their product in preference to google’s free and better offerings.(Wallet? NO. ISIS? YES!)

That kind of skullduggery takes time.
