Get the AT&T One X Jelly Bean Update Right Now

Published

The AT&T HTC One X Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update roll out is underway but those that don’t wish to wait for the Over-the-Air update to arrive can update manually to the new software if they so choose.

Update: It seems like the instructions aren’t working for most people. Those looking to flash can try going to XDA to try and get it early.

Late last night, AT&T posted the AT&T HTC One X Jelly Bean update details saying that the update would be rolling out to owners today. The carrier later removed the post and it was unclear whether the update would roll out to customers today or not. Turns out, the AT&T HTC One X Jelly Bean roll out is indeed underway and those who have waited the many months for the update are seeing it arrive Over-the-Air.

The HTC One X on AT&T is currently getting Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Since the roll out is arriving OTA, it means that many owners will have to wait a number of hours or days for the new software to arrive. Given the wait, and the amount of features that are packed into the software, the prospect of waiting another second for the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the AT&T HTC One X might be a too tall of an order.

Those users who wish to bypass the OTA and update manually are fortunately in luck as there is a way to update to the software without waiting for the OTA to arrive.

Before taking the plunge, HTC One X owners on AT&T who are not adept at manually installing Android software or following instructions should simply wait for the OTA to roll out and keep checking for the software in the device’s settings. Those who want to get Android 4.1 as soon as possible will want to follow these instructions.

Those who are running an HTC One X with either stock firmware or stock recovery can download the official HTC One X Jelly Bean update, which was first found by Android Police. Owners will want to get that update to the root storage of the device.

After that, owners will want to boot the device into Recovery. To get there, turn the phone off and hold down both Volume Down and Volume Up buttons plus the Power button. Once in the menu, select Recovery. Once an exclamation point appears, hold down the Volume Up and Down buttons.

Once in Recovery, users will need to select the “Apply update from internal storage” and choose the file that was just downloaded. The update will then install and AT&T HTC One X will soon be up and running with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean rather than Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, its previous version of Android.

Key words in the instructions are “Owners will want to get that update to the root storage of the device.” Unless you have root access this method will not work. Stock recovery and un-rooted it’s a no go.

There is a reason it wont work. Better way is to call ATT tech support and you may have to call a couple times to get a hold of some one who knows. First ask them to push the update to your phone If that does not work they can have you go to htc.com/support. Your phone must be backed up first because this wil wipe your phone. First download htc sync from that page, minimze after backup. Next go back to site main page pick your device ATT HTC ONE X, the next page will have an udate on right side of page download it . Its called evita dont recall the full name but its the only one.Once downloaded have your phone fully charged and on plug into your computer and fpollow directions its all automatic and ATT tech will walk you thru it when everything is done your phone will be on the main set up screen just like when you first got it out of the box. You are now on jelly bean. I did this today and now problems what so ever. Did not have to press volume or power button, like I said its all automatic just follow instuctions very simple. I also suggest having ATT tech walk you thru it that way its on them not you. But its really simple.
