Samsung Galaxy S3 Refresh Could Arrive Soon After Galaxy S4

Samsung could be preparing a slightly updated Galaxy S3 to join the Samsung Galaxy S4.

According to reports by way of Eldar Murtazin, this Galaxy S3 variant could ship with updated internals designed to keep the current Android flagship viable for those who aren’t in the market for its successor the Samsung Galaxy S4.

Among its updated components are said to be a 2,400 mAh battery, an improved display – though details are still vague on just what exactly that could mean hardware wise, and built-in support for wireless charging devices like LG’s recently announced WCP-3000.

Though there’s no details on whether that new wireless charging would be compatible with the nearly ubiquitous QI charging standard. Compatibility with QI could mean an instant plethora of compatible charges upon release. The odds are good considering a Samsung Qi wireless charger passed through the FCC recently.

This wouldn’t be the first time Samsung has shipped a slightly updated version of its outgoing flagship to users, having done the same thing previously with its original Android flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S. The company issued that Galaxy S Plus and the Galaxy 2 Advance just weeks after it shipped the Samsung Galaxy S2 worldwide.

This strategy allows the firm to position it’s older and subsequently cheaper hardware against current midrange products from rival companies and eke out even more sales thanks to the recognizable Galaxy S marketing and word of mouth the device has already generated.

Naturally those who’ll want the latest and greatest hardware should keep their attention focused on the Samsung Unpacked event coming up on March 14. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is rumored to feature all sorts of advances in both hardware and software including touchless gestures and a new “PHOLED” screen that is said to be 25% brighter than a typical AMOLED display.
