Official: No HTC One for Verizon Wireless

Published

on

After leaks, speculations, and rumors, HTC USA took to Twitter to confirm that the company’s latest HTC One flagship Android smartphone will not in fact be arriving on Verizon Wireless. Instead, HTC says that users on Verizon should look at the ‘awesome’ HTC Droid DNA for that carrier.

Responding to a Twitter inquiry, HTC says, ‘The HTC One will not be available on the Verizon network, but have you seen the awesome #DROIDDNA?’

The HTC Droid DNA is similar in specs to the HTC One. Both devices sport a 1080p full HD resolution touchscreen, though the HTC One has a smaller display size, a unibody aluminum construction, stereo front-facing speakers, the new Ultrapixel camera technology, and a newer Snapdragon 600 processor under the hood.

Following the announcement of the HTC One, there had been rumors that the device would in fact be coming to Verizon Wireless, but at a later date perhaps due to delay or more stringent carrier and network testing. Then, there was the supposed leak from Walmart suggesting that the HTC One would in fact be replacing the HTC Droid DNA on Verizon’s network. However, those rumors and leaks have all been dismissed by the latest HTC tweet.

It’s unclear though, if HTC will bring another variant of the HTC One for Verizon or not. The HTC Droid DNA is a variant of the international J Butterfly. And given Verizon’s history of re-branding devices to make them more exclusive under the carrier’s Droid branding, a variant, an updated model, or a a re-branded One could still potentially show up on Verizon’s 4G LTE network at a future date.

There’s been rumors that the successor to the Droid DNA is in the works under the DLX Plus code name. The original Droid DNA had the DLX code name.

As an HTC Rezound owner, I can tell you I won’t buy another Verizon only HTC device. Samsung, here I come.

You’re making a bad call, the Rezound wasn’t up to par with normal HTC devices. You shouldn’t make decisions about a company based on a single phone. The One is a much better device than both the Rezound and anything samsung will ever put out.

But the One isn’t coming to Verizon.

Rudixeno I totally agree this htc verizon relationship as left a bad taste in my mouth. I am also a rezound owner who will be switching to samsung. I’m not going to buy that POS droid dna.

the DNA is an incedible device with high amounts of development and a lifespan that has nowhere neared its end. Its hardware specs will keep it relevant and updated for quite some time. The HTC one is an incremental upgrade of the DNA the only major difference is a bit of overclocking and a better camera sensor.

hTC has problem when they use “many many phones” strategy. Since 2012 they’re focused at flagship, so many problem are solved. You can balame them for a bad performance in rezound. However give them a try will also do your own good.

To be totally honest, as a faithful HTC owner, Rezound at present, I will not own anything else. I hoped for the One to come, but an update to the DNA will be here soon enough.

Can anyone tell me why no other phone can do Word Wrap of anything online? You better check these other phones out, searching and reading things online, before you change. It will help to get your head out of the clouds.

My issue isn’t with the equipment. HTC produces top notch phones. My issue is with the subsequent Verizon/HTC support and updates of Verizon only models. It’s been deplorable. Think Droid Incredible, Thunderbolt, Rezound. I see no reason why support and updates will be any different with the DNA. At a visit to a Verizon company store last week the DNA wasn’t even on display.

This makes my decision easy. I will be upgrading to the GS4.
