A new IHS sSuppli report dives into the base of the Samsung Galaxy S4 price, with an analysis of the Samsung Galaxy S4 bill of materials. The report finds that the cost of Samsung Galaxy S4 parts is $233 for the LTE version and $236 for the Exynos equipped HSPA version. Apple’s Tim Cook is well known as a supply chain guru who can keep parts costs down, which may explain part of why the iPhone 5 reportedly costs $34 less to make than the Samsung Galaxy S4 with LTE. The rest of the difference can is explained by the added hardware and upgraded components Samsung uses in the Galaxy S4.

The Samsung Galaxy S4’s 5-inch 1080P HD display adds $75 to the price of the device, $31 more than the iPhone 5 Retina Display. Samsung also spends significantly more on sensors inside the Galaxy S4, which allow the device to perform smart software features like the one shown below.

Samsung spends more than double what Apple does to deliver a collection of sensors in the Galaxy S4. This includes a IR sensor that supports gestures, an IR control for controlling a HDTV or home theater and other sensors for temperature, humidity etc.

While we don’t know what’s in the Samsung Galaxy S4 box yet, IHS Suppli estimates the cost of box contents at $6, so don’t expect a pair of incredible headphones.
