Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2 Update Starts Rolling Out

After a wait that saw the Sprint Galaxy Nexus and an Asus tablet beat it to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2.2 update has started to roll out today for owners and it will be rolling out to Samsung Galaxy Nexus owners in phases.

Verizon has confirmed the news which will be welcomed amongst the many Samsung Galaxy Nexus owners on Verizon who have been waiting for months for the update to arrive. Earlier this year, the Sprint Galaxy Nexus received its roll out and an Asus tablet, the Transformer Pad 300, also received its upgrade to Android 4.2, beating the Verizon Galaxy Nexus to the punch.

Finally though, Verizon has rolled out to the long awaited update, along with its features, and the software is going to replace the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software that rolled out to owners last year. The software is also Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, the latest version of Jelly Bean.

Verizon says that the software is rolling out in phases which means that not all owners will see the update today. Typically, the update doesn’t start pushing out to all owners of the device for several days meaning some owners likely won’t see the new software emerge today. Verizon does not say how long it will take to push the update out.

What it does confirm are the features that will be on board. Those of course include all of the features coming with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean itself. They include more Google Now functionality, Quick Settings, Photo Sphere gesture-enhanced keyboard, lock screen widgets and more. We also imagine that the update will come with a number of bug fixes and enhancements for owners that might be having issues with their phone.

Verizon usually makes sure that its updates are relatively bug free. Owners who are interested in the update should go into the About section of their Settings to check to see if the update is available.

A manual installation method will likely emerge later today but thus far, the OTA is the only way to get the long-awaited Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2.2 update.

Up here in Michigan, I don’t have it yet. But geezus, it’s about time. I really hope this 4.2 update fixes everything from the 4.1 update. The Ice Cream Sandwich was perfect, but since that last update my phone has been sluggish and non-responsive for the most part.

You don’t want the new update it’s full of UNDOCUMENTED features called bugs. The stupid phone will reboot for no reason when talking. That is one famous bug I found since the so called new upgrade. Before releasing the new software fix the bugs first software developers. Screen goes blank with phone is on power button don’t work so to get around that have to pull the battery out of the nexus galaxy phone to get the phone to reboot…………….what a big freaking, annoying nuisance.
