Samsung Galaxy S3 Takes On Nokia Lumia 920 in New Microsoft Ad

Less than a week after Samsung unveiled its new Galaxy S4, Microsoft has a new ad comparing the Nokia Lumia 920 to the Galaxy S3, Samsung’s flagship phone from last year.

Like most recent Microsoft Windows Phone ads, the 30-second ad compares one particular feature of a Windows Phone with the same feature in a popular Android. As expected with an ad that touts the Nokia Lumia 920, the video compares the PureView camera in Nokia’s flagship with the camera of the Samsung Galaxy S3.

Ben Rudolph of Microsoft takes two pictures of a couple in what looks like a park or carnival at night, one with the Lumia 920 and one with the Galaxy S3.

When Rudolph shows the photos to the couple the Lumia 920’s photo shows much more detail with bright colors. The Galaxy S3 photo is much darker with less detail. That’s because Nokia focused a lot on low-light photography with the Lumia 920 while Samsung’s camera doesn’t have any special features that make it better at night.

The ad doesn’t touch on any other features of Windows Phone, though Microsoft has other ads that show more of the platform. This ad merely compares the camera between two devices.

Samsung’s next phone, the Galaxy S4 has camera features that Nokia lacks such as the ability to take photos with both cameras at once. The camera also lets users erase things in the background of photos or add voices to their photos. The company didn’t mention anything about low-light performance of the 13MP camera in the new phone, however.

The Nokia Lumia 920 is only available on AT&T in the U.S., though there are rumors of a variant coming to Verizon in the near future. The rumored Nokia Lumia 928 will likely feature a similar camera to the Lumia 920 inside a thinner, lighter aluminum shell instead of the 920’s polycarbonate construction. That phone may come to Verizon sometime in April.

With Lumia 920, you can erase things in the background too.
