Yesterday, Verizon confirmed that the long-awaited Samsung Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update was indeed going to start rolling out though we didn’t hear from many people who received the update. In fact, our Galaxy Nexus still remains on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean despite Verizon’s roll out. Today though, it appears that Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners, possibly en mass, are receiving the new Jelly Bean software.

The Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2 update is hitting more users today.

We’ve heard from numbers owners who say that their Verizon Galaxy Nexus has received Android 4.2 today and it has been confirmed by owners on the XDA-Developer forums. It seems that the roll out, per usual, is random with users across the country reporting the update as live.

Once the update does become live, users will be prompted to download the software and install it. The file is about 88MB in size which means that the process should be relatively quick. After installing, the phone will be reboot and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will be replaced by Android 4.2.

Android 4.2 of course is the latest version of software from Google and it brings an assortment of features including more Google Now functionality, lock screen widgets, Photo Sphere, gesture-enhanced keyboard, Quick Settings and more. It’s an incremental update but still a fantastic upgrade nonetheless.

Owners who want to the update today have a number of options. First, they can check in their device settings for an update. If it’s there, in the About section of the phone, a prompt will appear.

Users can also try the manual installation methods that are mentioned above though one of them is unreliable and the other requires installing the software, something that likely isn’t appealing to novice users of the Verizon Galaxy Nexus.

From the looks of things though, the update should be hitting more and more users over the next few days, culminating with the completion of the Android 4.2 update for the Galaxy Nexus.

last time there was an update, there was a way to trick the system into sending it to you…by dialing *, a few numbers, then * again from the phone. just forget what the #’s were, anyone remember and will it work this time?

          Hey Guy’s and Gal’s
After taking quite a few blog steps into account…. I just spent 5 minutes repeating the same steps and my Update is downloading as I write this post. Below are the steps I took. I’m confident it will work if you give it a shot and have 5-10 minutes of patience. Good Luck – Here’s to the upcoming Nexus 5

1 – Google Services Framework ‘under Apps’
          2 – Forcestop
          3 – Clear Data
4 – Don’t leave that screen ‘turn phone off’
5 – Turn Phone back on
6 – Pull up the dialer and type *#*#CHECKIN#*#* ‘don’t hit the call button.. this is simply to check you into the network’
7 – Go to settings and as we all probably know… go check for the update under About Phone

does it have to be done over WiFi? it’s 88 megs which I’m fine with over 4g if needed. If I can get it here at work today (no wifi) I’d rather just do it ASAP! :)

I got mine this morning. Version 4.2.2 Try shutting your phone OFF then see if it does the update when you turn it back on. You could have missed it, double check your phone setting in the ABOUT PHONE section to see if you have the 4.2.1 or the new 4.2.2

I received it yesterday. I charged my phone overnight and woke up to a 21% charge (WTH!) when I usually get 100% charge. I was pissed with my phone died while reading on the way into work. I have it on charge now and just found a new feature called DayDream which runs when the phone is charging or docked. It displays a clock, splashes of colors or your gallery slideshow. I’ve turned this off to see if it makes a difference.

    I have not received it.
I remember a trick where you go to google frameworks service in apps and clear the cache. When you then go to update, the date is set back to 1969. This “tricked” the phone into going to get the update, but it hasn’t worked for me this time. I’d like to get it since I’m betting this is the last update we’ll see from VZW for the Nexus.

You can keep doing the same procedure.I did it a bunch of times yesterday since the articles came out about the update starting to roll out. Apparently its random as to who gets it so just keep trying. You don’t bother with clearing the cache, you have to CLEAR THE DATA. So first “force stop” and THEN clear data. THEN you go to “about phone” to system updates and check. Good luck JP!

Thanks Alex – I was clearing data, but wrote cache…but I hadn’t forced stopped.
Tried it again and still no luck. Guess it’s just not my time. VZW is paying me back for paying my bill late I guess. ;-)
