A new report claims Samsung will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor in 70% of the first 10 million Samsung Galaxy S4 devices sold.

This new information joins a previously leaked list of Samsung Galaxy S4 models by region which showed the Galaxy S4 processor for almost every region.

The report comes from etnews, a Korean news site, which details possible performance issues as the culprit behind the switch.

It’s no surprise that the U.S. Samsung Galaxy S4 will use the Snapdragon 600 processor, but it many expected the Exynos Octa 5 processor in the European version. Samsung reportedly planned to launch the Samsung Galaxy S4 with the Octa 5 processor in the UK, but confirmed that the UK model will use the Snapdragon 600 last week.

The UK will reportedly receive a Snapdragon 600 powered device on the Samsung Galaxy S4 release date, but there will likely be an Exynos Octa 5 powered model available down the road.

According to the etnews report, issues with the Exynos Octa 5 processor are behind the sudden swap. A translation of the etnews report points to heat issues with the new processor.

Rumors of a Samsung Galaxy S4 mini include details that Samsung could use a similar Exynos quad-core processor, though it would only use four cores, instead of eight like the version destined for the Galaxy S4.

After the large splash at CES 2013 it’s surprising to see the pullback from the Samsung Exynos Octa 5 processor, but the company is planning to sell 100 million Galaxy S4 devices according to reports, which leaves little room for launch issues like those which plagued the Galaxy S3. By switching to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor Samsung can avoid the delays which are currently hampering the HTC One release and beat the rumored iPhone 5S to market in the U.S.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 release date in the UK is set for the end of April, likely on April 25th or 26th. Rumors also point to a Galaxy S4 release date in May for some regions. The U.S. Samsung Galaxy S4 release date is still a mystery, though there are rumors of a May or June release on Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T and others.
